Due to a dearth of male actors at the auditions, the director was forced to shuffle who she had in order to cast the show. Despite telling me I was Elwood last night as I left, she called me this afternoon, all apologies, and asked if I would play the young doctor (the other male lead) as she simply did not have anyone who could do the role ( Read more... )

Aw, that sucks man. I mean, it's cool that you still got cast, but Elwood would have been a fun role for you.

Yeah, I know. But the director was really backed up against a wall at this point, she's a friend, and I'd rather she have a decent show than be a prima dona.

And it'll be a good show -- the guy who did get cast as Elwood will do a good job. He'll do it differently than I would, but that's expected.

And now I don't have to learn Elwood's telephone speeches -- if I've got a block of dialogue longer than three lines of type, I have difficulty learning it. The doctor has fewer chunks of dialogue like that. It'll be a role I can do in my sleep.
