Particular thanks to Hati... In the middle of the night I couldn't remember the words 'puhka rahus'. (Trans: 'rest in peace'.) 'Vanaema' means 'grandmother'; literally it means 'old mother', and she resented that. It was a good tease. My sister, age 2, coined the word 'Mummyema', which she much preferred.
So I'm off to w*rk this morning, where I'll make sure I have money in my account and book a few flights. The travel plans remain - off Friday, back Saturday week - but the sense of urgency is gone. I intend to take this afternoon off if circumstances permit.
My flights are booked, the office has been escaped from, and the afternoon is mine to relax a bit once I've packed my bag. The flight out is just after 10 tomorrow morning, and I'll only have an hour-long stopover in Melbourne. I should be at Mum's for a late lunch tomorrow.
Right. The bag is packed. All I have to do is wash a couple of dishes, have a quick bout of hoovering (possibly at night), and remember the toothbrush. In the meantime, I have this sense of urgency to deal with... Please, someone, tell me I'm allowed to sit still for a while.
Oh Ivan, I've only just seen the news. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Be sure to take good care of yourself...and eat lots of chocolate:) I'll be thinking of you.
I'm sorry I took so long getting round to hunting you down, I dont come here too often any more but now that more people are coming this way I'll be sure to
You have all my love- having lost my mother not so long ago I can claim to have at least a little understanding
I'm off to the airport in about three hours; before then I need to wash somme dishes and clean up a bit, which of course is why I'm online instead and eatng chocolate for breakfast. And creme caramel too, if I'm honest.
