So I have this theory: that the majority of the Disney films from the 1960s and 1970s owe their form and format to two movies: Old Yeller (1957) and The Shaggy Dog (1959).

You won't be surprised to hear that I loved The Shaggy Dog, and hated Old Yeller.

And you neglected to mention one of my favorite movies in that genre: Charlie, the Lonesome Cougar. :)

How about The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes? I think that falls into the Shaggy Dog cateogory. Love Kurt Russell's hair in that one -- and it has Joe Flynn! A look at IMDB reveals that there was a 1995 remake with Kirk Cameron, which makes me weep.
