I had been pondering exactly the same things to myself over the past weeks.

As often happens, you put these thoughts into words far more elegantly and concisely than I ever could. Thank you.

One of my pet peeves is when people talk about taxation to pay for things like Disability, unemployment, welfare, medical care and the like say that it's "Taking money from some people to give it to others" as if the rich people weren't actually doing the exact same thing.

What about people who make millions by cashing out all their stock in a company that they know is going to go bankrupt soon? Did they "earn" that money? No. They stole it from the poor fools who bought that stock because they didn't know that the company was about to go belly up. (This morning my mom and I were talking about a family friend who did just that, knowingly, and is now SUPER rich and worried about taxes biting into her money.)

What about people who are receiving millions of dollars every year in compensation while they say that they can't afford to pay the clerks and floor workers in their stores more than part-time minimum wage? Are those people not TAKING money out of the pockets of those clerks in order to pay their own bonuses?

Agreed!

The sad truth is the Republicans get away with their anti-American agenda by telling outright lies and propaganda to get a lot of middle class and working class people to vote against their own best interests by voting for Republicans.

I'm especially upset about the corporate bailouts for businesses that were mismanaged by unethical people. Why should my tax dollars pay for bonuses and bailouts for somebody else's mistakes?
