Why Furry Fandom is worth fighting for

One of the astounding things about Furries is the sense of community that we have developed. When one of us is down, others will come to his aid, even if they do not know him well. It is enough to know that it is a Furry. That community spirit, an increasingly rare thing in this modern self-absorbed world, is the singular greatest strength that our Fandom has.

The past few months have not been very kind to me. I spent three of them out of my house due to a flood which cost quite a bit more to fix than insurance was able to cover. On top of that, medical bills have been piling up (again, an insurance issue), and uncertainties about next year's cash flow had me very worried. It made for a lean Christmas, a 2010 budget that had a pretty heavy restriction on spending, and plans to start selling on Ebay some of the junk I've been hoarding over the past 30 years or so.

Enter bigtig. Behind my back he pounded the pavement and talked more than fifty people into throwing money into a hat. He did this purely out of the goodness of his heart, and out of the goodness of their hearts the Furry community gathered together enough cash to cover not only the insurance shortfall on the house repairs, but also covered nearly all of the backlog of doctor bills. He sneakily used astor-apatosaur as a deliverysaurus. Imagine my surprise when I opened Astor's Christmas card and a very hefty check fell out, along with the well-wishes of the fifty-plus donors.

It's enough to make a fellow cry -- and I confess it did, a little. You are all wonderful folks and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
