Haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd post an update on projects I've done around the house.
A week or two ago I finished up renovating the half bath I've been working on for a while. No longer is it a 4x4 completely pink room. As DS1 says every time he enters the bathroom, "Daddy, it looks like a real bathroom!" 'Nough said.
Also installed a vent fan in the bath. Well, the fan housing was there, but the fan guts were long gone. Couldn't find replacement guts, so I was going to replace the entire box. Bought a new fan, realized pulling out the old one and installing the new one would be a huge pain in the neck, and several other parts of the body, since reaching it would be nearly impossible and would more than likely damage the ceiling. So I mangled the guts of the new fan so they fit in the old fan housing. Would love to see the reaction of the next person who opens that up and tries to figure what happened.
Last summer I started scraping and repainting the peeling trim along the roof line. There was one side I hadn't finished, partially due to the fact it was on a sloped edge of the downhill side of the house. Last weekend I started scraping and painting it and every time I worked on it, I summoned violent thunderstorms. This weekend I finished it, without summoning bad weather. I still dislike working on ladders, but I seem to be getting more comfortable with it.
While I had the ladder out, I reattached the downspout that had separated itself from the house. Got up on the roof, too, and cleaned out the gutters.
Last week
astra_nomer decided we should put a screen door on the door that leads from our bedroom to the deck so we can increase air circulation in the house (a house designed for central air, not moving air around) without filling the bedroom with flying things. After a long search for a store with the door we wanted in stock, I installed it yesterday. While the installation took much longer than I expected as the door came in more pieces than I had expected, I must say I was very impressed by the installation instructions. They were very detailed, clear, and understandable. Such a rare thing these days.
Also crawled up in to the attic to move the vent pipe for the bathroom fan so it vents to the outside instead of into the attic. Really should have done that before the weather got to be in the nineties and sunny.
I've started some patching in preparation for painting the living room/dining room/foyer area, which is likely my next project, if for no other reason I promised DS1 we could work on it when he was disappointed that he couldn't help me paint the trim.
My todo list is getting distressingly short and is much too heavily weighted with painting projects. Maybe I will have to focus on the installing a new window through a concrete block and brick wall project. Or attack the projects that are on the list of things I'd like to do, but aren't going to happen before we are likely to move.
