the marshall tucker band's "can't you see" may very well be the 2nd best classic rock song of all time. it is and has almost everything classic rock should be or have: it's too long, it's got great, slightly gruff vocals, it's a little bit country sounding, it's got a part where you think it's gonna end but then it starts up again and kicks just a ( Read more... )

fuck that shit. for sheer scope and bombast, stairway can not be beat.

you're just being a hater. take it from me, i know a thing or two about being contrarian.

i'd put more (or any?) faith in your argument if you backed it up with, um, any sort of argument.

Bombast does not = awesome. If that were true, Creed would be the new Zep.

My first CD was Zeppelin IV and I'm here to say, there are few better albums, but many better songs than Stairway. It's a rule of thumb that people whose favorite Led Zeppelin tune is Stairway probably also say their favorite Queen song is "Bohemian Rhapsody." Stairway's still a great tune, but it is probably one of the most overrated classic rock tunes ever, mostly because of the aforementioned sort of people, who don't ever go in for more than superficial understanding of a great band.

(Not to say that this is you. I know for a fact you know your shit.)

Mostly I just wanted to open with a movie reference.
