On the morning of July 17, I was at the hospital early for my stepdad's surgery. In the recovery room, I felt a kick and then a gush of fluid. My jaw probably dropped but no one was looking. Unassisted! Fantastic! Great story. Sorry it hurt so bad, but I'm glad that it went so well, even with the blood loss.
Unassisted is definitely something I've considered but this being my first I'm just going to get a very hands off midwife to be there in case I need her. I'm 21 weeks and -really- enjoying this 2nd trimester. I had a terrible 1st trimester of lots of puking and smell sensitivity causing gagging alllll the freaking time. It suuucked. Now that I can feel the baby moving around, I'm really digging it.
My name is Bean. We've also got Wendy and Alex in common. :)

I worked with a midwife for 2+ years and would have had one myself if we were still in Ann Arbor (although I don't imagine anything would have happened differently). Midwives are great! I don't even think "hands off" is necessarily the best; I've attended births where I was 100% hands-off and others where I was very hands-on; it's all about how the labor goes and what the mom wants in the moment.

I apprenticed for a while then realized I'd rather be a doula. I'm not big on paperwork and don't like dealing with gov't stuff. So it seems to be the best thing.
I'm sure whatever I need in the moment the midwife will do. In fact I'm interviewing one tomorrow and another the next day. My current midwife can't help past August.
Nice chattin!
