Minerva McGonagall held Severus Snape in the utmost regard. Professionally, that is. Years as a Death Eater had hardened him, of course, and he had never tolerated incompetence. Even so, she could respect a man who kept his classroom as quiet as a mouse and neat as a pin.
Things changed after Harry Potter arrived. Severus’s Reign of Terror had begun that year.
Minerva McGonagall had known Severus Snape for quite some time, and she had only ever seen him so wrathful during his school years. She was quite certain that he had been in love with James Potter then.
