I just finished "Hip Hop America" by George Nelson. I really enjoyed it. Maybe it's just me being a musician, but it was very interesting. Learned a lot about the beginning of hip hop and 1980's New York. I dunno if that helps...but it may get your mind off things an inspire you to find other places to hang out/go for music/entertainment in your awesome city.
