///"I'm angry, mostly because there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it, realistically"
Resisting evil and letting your light shine is an affront to darkness. The brighter you shine the more of an effect you have on the world. Realism is through faith, everything else is just a grand lie to make you believe otherwise. The greatest trick the devil pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist.
that's really true, and believe me i find it to be in every day life, but i think what ashley is saying is that literally there is nothing she can do to stop people who are so filled with the wrong ideas from carrying out their hateful actions.
and i agree, it is sickening. the only reason daily life for me isnt completely horrible is because we humans have the ability to completely ignore others. whether or not this is a good thing, i am not sure. obviously we need to feel the weight of others' pain, so that we can have the necessary desire to aid them in their suffering, but at the same time (and especially when we feel like we cannot aid them at all), how can we live with any kind of happiness or optimism if we constantly dwell on terrible things? is it wrong to ignore the suffering of others like this?
I believe it is wrong to ignore suffering especially of this nature. One should use the suffering that one can't help and use it as impetus for the suffering that can be prevented. For some like Ashlea it is helping others, and for the rest it is helping themselves first, remove the beam in your own eye first before you can help your brother. The suffering of others on such a mass scale is wake up call to help the world. Dwelling never helps, but ignoring is worst, so find the medium, know the world is in such a state and know your problems are minor compared to theirs, so fix yours first. I'm still working on my internal battle so I'm not on some high horse but there is always work to be done. The harvest is plenty but the laborers are few, becomes a laborer before you can chose between the wheat and the tare. Nod your head and acknowledge your brothers suffering but do not judge until you are made perfect.
