I have a huge passion for children's literature too, I'm just sure there are hundreds of people out there who know a hell of a lot more than I do about them!
Where to start?! Firstly, I have read and loved Artemis Fowl, am a huge Discworld fan (bored my English teacher in 4th year at high school with endless Disc-related essays!), and love Goodnight Mr Tom. As for the other stuff, thank you so much for all the info, it really is useful. Other people have already recommended Burgess, and I have been meaning to read Bloodtide for ages now! As for the Shirley Hughes book, I'm really interested in looking at that, as retellings of fairytales are full of potential for teaching. It's great to hear names I've never heard of, because not only can I get into new and exciting stuff, but maybe the kids I'm teaching will have read it. Away to have a hunt on Amazon now...
So, many thanks!
ps I've added you to my friends list on the strength of this post, hope you don't mind!
That's fine, sweetie! I'm a huge believer in the power of reading, especially for children, and I'm hoping to get back into working at a book shop ASAP!
