Which again, is a complete demonstration of just what is wrong with this show, and just how much better it could have been if more thought was put into it.
THIS! I wondered about that as well, even if I forgot it kinda instantly again. I have the feeling they wanna make Mordred out to be a good guy in the end and Arthur's actual death remaining a vision that doesn't come true. Which... yeah, I kinda like Mordred (though I like him a lot more in his moral ambiguity, tbh, a lot more than Merlin in that respect these days...) but I'm kinda done with their moving away from the actual Arthurian Canon in favour of the Disney Fairy Tale Ending(TM). I mean, I love the innovation and reinterpretation of canonical events as much as the next girl, but seriously, there's young people out there whose only contact to the Arthurian legend, which is one of the staple myths of European society, is this fricking show. That's another kind of responsibility that no one seems to have thought about. Makes me really sad.
They have been pushing the 'once and future' king bit quite a lot as well. Assuming this is the 'once' part, I have been wondering for some time if they are intending to end on a positive note by setting up for the 'future' part and thus not have the entirely miserable and downbeat ending that I think we're all expecting at this point

Heeee... the image of Merlin and Arthur battling an apocalyptic future, now that sounds like a cracker! But please, I hope those producers do NOT touch any kind of material for the coming five years that might be of even remote interest for me to watch. About 75% of writers in fandom could have done a better job at spinning out the series arc than that bunch and it hurts even more because not only is the cast and production excellent (apart from a serious case of historical anachronism that's just endearing my inner historian these days) and the premise of the show was so fresh and original it could have been cult for ten years. Now it just leaves a bitter aftertaste and the wish for it to be over so that fandom can fan the dying embers in peace. Really really not how I wanted this show to end.
Way to go Merlin, you've been told that it only takes two drops to drug Gwen. In fact you've been told that it would be dangerous to give her any more, and you pour half the bloody bottle into that jug!
LOL, I noticed that too. It's like Merlin is acting out of the collective Merthur fandom's subconscious there. Die, Gwen, die! :D

I agree - with all of it, exceot maybe the exit of Evil Gwen. I liked her for an episode then she became as dull and annoying as Mary Sue Gwen just alot pushier. :P Im almost looking forward to the return of the Moral Compass next week... Show - I know youlre going to make me regret saying that.
Your point about Merlin not being sensed by Morgana is a great one but I honestly believe they simply cant be bothered thinking these things out or maintaining any kind of consistency. They've diminished Merlin as Emrys the Saviour of Magic and the greatest sorceror ever, to just one of a trio, any one of whom could win in a battle; in fact Merlin looks the weakest at the moment. The encounter with the Dorchaid (sp?) was the perfect illustration- Emrys is supposed to BE magic isnt he and the subject of legend? Yet to her (even though she supposedly hurls out prophecies herself) he was just another jobbing sorceror she didn't recognise. Its as Eoin said - they make it up as they go along. What they really need, is someone to take notes. But I

What they really needed was a show bible that was updated every week with pertinent facts, and scripts assiduously checked to ensure that nothing established was contradicted without developing a plausible reason. Also some basic respect for visual continuity and viewer intelligence.
The magically changing horses used to amuse me. Until I realised how symptomatic it was of them not giving a shit.
