I've noticed this in the US and the UK...all the things aimed towards women to lose weight. Yoghurt, salad, Special K, low fat chocolate. I hardly ever see things aimed at men to lose weight. Well, with one exception. There was this story on Channel 5 News the other night about slimming undervests and girdle things for men. But most things as ( Read more... )

i wrote to activia about this because ian eats activia yoghurts for his IBS and is sick of seeing only women in them. they wrote back and said they knew men ate them, but they were predominantly bought by women, even when men ate them, so they wouldn't be putting men in their adverts any time soon

Maybe if they put men in the ads then more men would eat them and they'd sell more. What ding-dongs!

that's more or less exactly what i wrote to them. i said maybe try and get rid of the stigma of men eating yoghurts and you'll double your audience

they need a macho yoghurt, like when they made coke zero instead of diet coke. i just can't think of any way to present yoghurts other than frubes

Haha. They're have to do fruit and nut yoghurts or beer-flavoured yogurts.

WRONG! We are the targets of all those bowflex and perfect pushup and abs of steel commercials. I do blame all the sitcoms on tv that have the fat husband and the knockout wife though. ESPECIALLY when they shit all over the wife, you'd think they'd have to be near perfect to keep wives like that.

Yeah, that's why I said when it comes to food and dieting, that stuff is aimed at women.

However apparently women are too weak to handle a Bowflex machine. We have to settle for aerobics tapes and gym memberships where a capable man can show us how to work the scary and complicated equipment.

totally agree. It seems like there isn't much of anything that doesn't have a gender targeted audience. Can't we all like the same stuff?
