All This Beauty...

Some recipes from the 60s that caught my eye for their names alone and I adored the simple graphic design. Serving 'Negresse en chemise' would get you into mighty strife these days, but how sexy does it sound :) I also like the idea of chickens in a champagne oasis!

More news when I have more time x

Ah, back in the days when French made everything so much more exotic and sexy.

Seriously though "Negresse en chemise"? Who names a dish "black woman in a nightie[1]"? And who's Lucas Carton when he's not cooking fish?

The chicken in champagne is one of the few that I'm actually going "OK, yeah, I'd cook that." Because it's chicken. With champagne. And November's coming up (slowly).

Actually, how much do you want to bet these turn up on Masterchef in the next season?

[1] OK, it could be "black woman in a blouse" but really that's not any better. Altavista translates it as "Black woman out of shirt" which is really just wrong in so many, many ways.

*g* Your last translation was definitely the correct one, black woman in a shirt/blouse. The problem is that "black woman" doesn't have the same romanticism as "Negresse" which conjures up some West African colonial beauty of the time, in a loosely buttoned cotton white shirt. The French get away with a lot, or perhaps we've barred too many older words because of their modern connotations.

I would like to know who Lucas Carton is also! Perhaps a famous chef I would assume.

Chicken in Champagne recipe sounds pretty good actually. But I am a bit suspicious about the 4 eggs because it kind of turns the whole thing into a custard really.

What's happening in November apart from horse racing?

I've been surprised how much the contestants have failed on easy things this year.

Lucas Carton, famous Paris restaurant named after the man himself who seems to have come from a long line of famous French chefs. So I think we can say, don't sneeze at his fish ;)
