Mother had it right

When I received "Wraeththu" I was at her house (i have my books delivered there, as they are always when the postie arrives) and she flipped through it and was taking the piss out of the writing.  I got all defensive and was bristling as if she didn't understand poetic writing ( Read more... )

Nah, stick with it. I was thinking that at that point too, but the second book is very good. I think so anyway.

I can't. I apologise, but I can't. I opened the book at random in book 2 and got the excerpt above. I just can't read Mpreg, specially when it's described as "a pearl"

Neither can I. But then I think there's a very big difference between taking someone elses human characters and making them go through the experience of carrying a baby for nine months for the focus of a fic, and touching upon the reproductive habits of what is essentially an alien race. Plus that isn't the focus of the book, it's barely the focus of a chapter. In my view that isn't mpreg, which, for the record, I also find utterly ridiculous.

Wow, and I've heard people talk about Storm Constantine in the same breath as Michael Moorcock. That's not poetic, its just splurge.

I was almost tempted to read some of these books when I spotted that there are some gigs going writing 'Wreaththu Mythos' novels at Storm's own publishing house - the one she put together just to keep her own books in print - and, well... I'm pretty glad that I didn't now.

On a similar note, despite all the actual good novels I have hanging around waiting to be read, I really needed some baaad fantasy. And I found just the writer in J.V. Jones. She's hopeless: characterisation all over the place, non-sequiters abounding, non-sensical imagery and a bit of random violence any time the plot looks like stalling. No wonder Robert Jordan thinks it's 'Wonderful'. The very first paragraph of the book had me sold.

The one who would soon be king ran naked through the woods. Night birds, night creatures, and night insects traveled with him through the vein-dark maze. Smells were sharp, the air was thin. The moon ( ... )

Now... I hadn't thought of that possibility.

The old ones are still always the best. *laughs*

hee! He SO dragged Draco out for some corridor snoggage. I answered the quiz very honestly too. With the lack of Lucius in the answers, I was happy enough to get Stud Muffin face, specially as he gets older.

But am I so bad to love him aged 12 in Quidditch Leather?

And yes, as eumenides said to me earlier, i don't know whether to cheer that anything could be published or depressed that this is.

And you're releasing THIS to the rest of the world in the bookcrossing? That's just mean!

I got Cho soddin Chang in that meme. Clearly it has no clue, I mean do I LOOK like a weeping girly who likes sport? (If you say yes I will hurt you).
