♠ Character Info
Name: Ursula the Sea Witch
Movie/series: The Little Mermaid
Year/Position: Guidance Counselor
Canon history: Link

Non/Speaking Animal/Companion(if any):
Flotsam and Jetsam, two moray eels. They're kept in a large tank in Ursula's aquarium-like office. Their mobility is greatly reduced stuck in there, but Ursula just couldn't bear to leave her babies behind.

Powers:
The ability to cast magic spells. She has knowledge on mixing and brewing potions, and these potions can do a number of different things-- from changing a creature’s appearance, to taking abilities like speaking. But the spells she casts always have a catch to them. They usually have a time limit, and require nearly impossible tasks to be made permanent. She plans that from the very start, tricking people into making deals with her for her magic, only to have them go wrong and become indebted to her. Naturally her only spells that don’t end in disaster are the ones she casts on herself.

AU history:
Ursula once lived in the royal palace of Atlantica. She had been invited there in her youth by the then Prince Triton, who had heard from his subjects of her magical abilities. He made her into his royal fortuneteller and sorcerer upon meeting her, and complimented her on her unique appearance. No other merfolk in Atlantica had tentacles and purple skin like she had, and she had been considering changing her tentacles into a fish tail to be like everyone else. Thanks to the prince, she changed her mind.

He welcomed her into his palace and allowed her to partake in high-class privileges she had only once dreamed of. Huge banquets of delicious food, gorgeous, lavish living spaces, and an honest to goodness feeling of belonging. The prince was so kind to her, in fact, that she developed a bit of a crush on him. And with him soon inheriting the throne, a part of her wondered if he would ever consider making her his queen. She pictured herself ruling over the ocean with him, and grew giddy with excitement, but he instead chose to wed someone else. A beautiful mermaid who was perfectly normal looking.

Ursula wasn’t the same from then on. She became resentful towards the now king and his queen, and with time she became greedier and greedier. The taste of the high life proved too much for her, it seemed. She ate more, demanded more, and eventually went as far as wanting to rule the entire ocean herself. Soon she put forth a plan to usurp the throne from the king into action, but it failed. King Triton banished her immediately, calling her a witch, and she was forced to stay far from the kingdom and glorious palace she had adored so much.

Her bitter hatred towards the king and all merfolk only grew from then on, and the only thing that gave her comfort was eating her sorrows away. That, and plotting revenge. She also found great delight in swindling foolish merfolk into striking up deals with her. She would use their insecurities against them, and have them turned them into helpless, shriveled up pulps as punishment for trusting her. It gave her a sick satisfaction having suffering subjects of the king displayed before her in her lair.

Finally, at last, an opportunity for true revenge arose. The witch discovered the king’s youngest daughter desired to become human. Spying over the girl, she saw how she and her father fought over the issue. Humans had been responsible for the death of Triton’s wife (much to Ursula’s delight), and the tragedy had left him with a prejudice towards all humans. The princess, however, wouldn’t let her silly dream go, so Ursula had her eels lure the girl to her lair, and suckered her into one of her deals. She cast a spell to make the princess human, making her free to frolic about on land until she met her true love, who with true love’s kiss could make her human permanently.

In reality, Ursula had just included that true love nonsense to keep the girl up there for a long while. Her cruel plan was to put the foolish little princess into danger, and she needed her on land to do so. Tales of the mist had spread even down to creatures living in the ocean, and upon hearing about it, Ursula decided that nothing would be more gratifying than having Triton lose his daughter to it. She would make sure the princess was whisked away by it, and if by some miracle Triton actually managed to save her, he would still have to surrender his crown to the witch in order to release her from the contract she had signed.

Either way he would suffer. Whether by simply losing his daughter, or his entire kingdom.

Personality:
Greedy, power hungry and spiteful. Her hatred for the people of Atlantica knows no bounds, and she gets back at them by being two-faced. She lures victims in with fake kindness and false claims of seeing the light and turning over a new leaf. But once they're in her trap, she takes great joy in screwing them over. After years of doing this, she's come to enjoy not only making Atlantians suffer, but anyone really. It's all fair game, and always amusing. After living in bitter resentment for so long, her humanity and empathy towards other beings has pretty much gone to the wayside. She may have been a decent person once, but that was a long time ago.

Along with that, Ursula is also quite glamorous. Her whole life she was treated as a lesser being by merfolk, telling her that her skin, hair and tentacles were strange. But that just served as fuel to make her love herself. She's honestly proud of her body, and carries herself like the refined diva she feels she deserves to be treated like. She has the ability to change herself with magic-- make herself thinner, get rid of the tentacles and become socially acceptable-- but simply doesn't want to. She believes she shouldn't have to change herself to please others (*coughTritoncough*), and loves herself as is.

Greatest Fear:
Never having her revenge, and never getting a taste of power again. The thought of rising above the people of Atlantica, who had made her feel like an outcast her whole life, and being their ruler brings her unparalleled joy. To never make that dream a reality is something she doesn’t even want to imagine. And on a lesser note, she wouldn't ever want to see anything awful happen to Flotsam and Jetsam either. They're, in all honesty, probably the only true friends she's ever had in her entire life. Her affection for them is genuine.

Has your character been at the Academy before/ does your character remember it?:
She has never been at the Academy before, so everything is brand spanking new to her.

What are your plans with this character?:
She's coming to the school only to initiate a plot for revenge. She sent Ariel before her, and is now coming herself to make sure the mermaid is taken by the mist. To keep anyone from figuring out her plans though, she'll put on the fake, kindly act she put on so often back home under the sea. She plans to pose as a guidance counselor, making students and staff believe she intends nothing more than to help others, and wait for the right opportunity to secretly strike.

It may take a while though, so in the meantime she'd be happy to trick any unfortunate souls into making deals with her, just to keep herself entertained. IM me anytime you'd like to come up with any plot ideas.

♠ Writing
Third person writing sample:
A devious, practically psychotic smirk, spread across the sea witch’s face as King Triton’s youngest daughter flailed in agony before her. She laughed wickedly, not believing her luck. That girl had really done it-she had actually agreed to the deal! Signed her name away with barely a moment’s hesitation! It couldn’t have gone more perfect!

As soon as the stupid girl’s name was written, Ursula’s magic spread throughout her body, tearing her lovely fish tail in two.

The princess was completely disorientated, overwhelmed by not only the searing pain, but the new sensation of having legs and suddenly needing to breath. How hilarious it would have been if she had just drowned right then and there, Ursula thought. But she fought the temptation of letting her do so, and had the princess magically whisked on up to the surface instead. Hopefully the brat wasn’t so hopelessly idiotic that she could find her way to that academy on her own.

Well, no matter. If not, Ursula she would have Flotsam and Jetsam lead her there if she got herself lost, which was likely.

The witch fell back laughing once the former mermaid was gone, and her horrible, gleeful cackling echoed throughout the lair, causing the shriveled up souls in her garden to whimper silently in fear. Flotsam and Jetsam swam up to their mistress as her laughter slowly died down, and spread across their sinister faces were smiles similar to hers.

“Babies...” she cooed, opening her arms to them. “...such good boys! You did your jobs perfectly.”

They hissed contented as she pet them, and wrapped themselves around her embrace. “Soon now... very soon, our plan will go into motion. Ooh, if I could only see old Triton’s face when finds he can’t find his precious little girl.”

She let forth another wicked laugh, Flotsam and Jetsam’s delighted hisses accompanying it.

Giving her pets one last round of cooing, she rose and swam right back to her cauldron. Her long black tentacles grabbed potion after potion off her shelf, and madly threw them into the pot. Smoke rose from the bubbling concoction, and the witch raised her arm and began chanting another spell.

“Yesss...” she thought. “That little mermaid will be the very key to Triton’s undoing, and soon the entire ocean will be mine.”

First person writing sample:
[Ho hum, if it isn’t another video broadcast coming on.

There’s another new staff member, it seems, for the screen shows an unknown office. A peculiar one at that. The dimly lit room almost looks as if it were underwater at first glance, but upon further inspection one would realize it’s only a very large, wall sized tank of water. Inside the tank swim two moray eels that cast the camera what seem like devious looks every now and then.

Before the tank sits a black desk, and seated at the desk is a... rather large woman with purple skin, stark white hair, and wearing a long black dress.

She sits there, disregarding that the camera is even on for a moment, as she looks to the side at a mirror and puts lipstick onto her already heavily made up face. Once it’s applied, she gives her reflection a satisfied grin and turns to the screen.]

Hello darlings~!

Thought I’d go ahead and make my introduction. Not to worry, it will be brief! [Chuckles.]
I was called here to your lovely little school to be your counselor. You can all call me Ursula. “Auntie” Ursula, even. No need to be formal with me dears, I’m here to be your friend~

There’s quite a bit of drama going on amongst you, isn’t there? Poor things! It’s dreadful, isn’t it? Wish there was a place to let out your sorrows and anguish, don’t you? Well fear not, that’s what my office is for. Stop by any time, my door will always be open.

--oh! And before I forget... if any of you know of a young girl named Ariel, do let me know. Long red hair, slim figure, pretty face... you’ll know her when you see her. [Another chuckle, this on a little darker than the first.] Thank you, darlings!

[And with that, the screen goes black.]
