October 4, I Am Not Quite Sure The Year
Very Far From Home

I am now officially sixteen. (Thank you, Grandfather, for giving me my birthday. I think of you fondly and wonder how my Home for Little Wanderers is faring.) I had hoped to celebrate in the arms of my dear Jaimy, or at least with my beloved crew members of the Belle, but, alas, luck has ( Read more... )

These things really aren't like a proper diary, I'm afraid. They have them here, but these journals are used more to communicate between others.

And I wouldn't recommend attempting to fly with the wings. I've been told by enough people that it's impossible.

Impossible simply means that you have not tried hard enough. Are you a person, or is my book writing in itself?

Valid point, I suppose. It's the thought of what practicing would entail that's putting me off.

And no, I'm real. I'm communicating with you through my journal. That's what they're meant for.

I am pleased to meet you, then. I hope you enjoyed reading my diary.

Hey Jacky! So you're living in my old building right? It's nice there isn't it? :)

And I have some good news too! I can see now! The cold weather means that Winter's on its way and that means snow! [Selphie draws in some snowflakes. Not the prettiest in the world, but it's the thought that counts!]

You might be able to find your Pennywhistle in the item shop.

So that is why I have not seen you around. I do like living so high up, though I miss my cabin.

You were cured? How wonderful, Selphie!

Alas, I did not find my whistle in the shop, and I did not like the proprietor. It seems I will not have much choice but to go back, though.

That's right. I live in House 59. Come visit me sometime!

I know!

What if you got one made? I know someone who makes items. He's really nice.

I most certainly will!

Do you think he could make a good one? And what would he want in exchange?

Did you just call Jack Sparrow an honorable captain of a merchant ship? Like hell he is!

And happy birthday kid.

[Jacky doesn't think that mysteriously-appearing words in a very strange kind of book are a reliable source of information. She crosses out these lying sentences until they are illegible.]

[Poor girl.]

Oi. They're still there. Even with lines through them.

Since you seem to be a seafaring type, you shouldn't blind yourself that much.

[Jacky draws a ship under the words, giving it plentiful complicated rigging that consumes and disguises the letters.]

[Written] If no one else has told you this...

[Audio] The journals transmit writing as well as voice and pictures. You might want to learn to lock certain entries if you want to use the book as a diary.

...You might also want to be careful what you put in the journal.

[Written] I have been told, but it seems that on this subject I am not a fast learner.

[Audio] Are you from a world with "radio"?

[Written] You seem to be getting the hang of things fine so far.

My name is Derek, incidentally.

[Audio] Radio and other things.

*Locked*

Has anyone bothered to show you how to lock an entry?

Jacky. And I presume you do not mean locking the book.

[There is a tap-tap and a brief pause because she speaks.]

I suppose you've heard it many times already today, but...happy birthday.

Well, maybe because not many of my birthdays have been happy ones...
