I've been experiencing strange discomfort lately on my right side underneath the ribcage towards the back. I wouldn't call it pain, it's just discomfort and it's difficult to describe. At first, I jokingly thought "ha, it must be my liver." Which has been under assault for a long while beginning when I heavily abused dextromethorphan for a period ( Read more... )

Well, I already drink a lot of water. That's been my only consistent healthy practice for oh...about 7 years I think. I don't drink soda or anything {unless it has liquor in it, of course}. I also drink a lot of water when I drink alcohol which helps fend off dehydration but is also supposed to fend off some of the intoxication which may be a contributing factor in my drinking more. I went and bought some chamomile tea when I got off work tonight and picked up some other all natural snacks because that should help minimize the toxins and help my liver rest a bit I would hope ( ... )

Thanks! I definitely need to hear that sort of thing to help motivate me. Hopefully the damage can still be repaired. I haven't noticed any other strange ailments so that's a good sign. And, it's not pain just...I read a description which described it as a feeling of "fullness" and I'd say that's what it most feels like. No bulging or anything, of course, but rather like what it would feel like if I had eaten a moderate-sized meal and my belly was on my lower right side. So, I'm going to try my best to abstain to test and see if that helps or if it could be something else. But that's so much easier said than done given my extensive history of substance abuse.

Do you happen to know of anything that might help with reparation? I've been researching it a bit and most things suggest keeping the amount of fat consumed to a minimum and sticking to natural foods so that the liver doesn't have to process as many toxins. So, I've been sticking to that today.

Yeh the liver is the largest organ to begin with just because of all the work it has to do, so even a slightly enlarged liver will displace other organs. re:substance abuse, I'm a big fan of mental tricks - feel like a drink? go look at diseased livers on google images. meh, whatever works ( ... )

So far, so good. I went out with the purpose of buying alcohol today but ended up just driving around and coming home. I actually AM substituting herbal tea {which actually has soy lecithin as an ingredient which I didn't notice when I bought it} at night instead of drinking. I just feel I should treat myself to something besides water at night so it serves that purpose. And I also happen to be trying the meditation thing again which is a phase I go through sometimes. Guess I have to have an altered state of some sort to break up the monotony...and also been listening to binaural beats some. The feeling of pressure/fullness in the area it was has noticeably lessened which leads me to believe that it is, indeed, a problem with my liver which is rather frightening :\ And, the suggestion for serine has been noted. Thanks for the advice.
