This is my least favorite day of the year...

Well, it's still March 31st here in New York, but in some places, it's already April 1st. And I fucking hate April Fool's Day. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good practical joke, something in good fun, something light-hearted. I still think that some of Blizzard's old jokes were hilarious, as are some of Google's.

But my least favorite kind of ( Read more... )

I'm not even worried about YOU, you at least understand what makes for a good joke.

Oh god, the mess the internet becomes. Just this last hour, I've stumbled across too many Japanese April Fool's jokes. A translation patch for a visual novel I've waited years for just came out, and I actually needed to wait to see when it was 100% confirmed not a joke.

I mostly ignore the internet for around 48 hours around April 1st. It takes more than a day not just because of time zones, but because stuff will keep propagating for a while afterward.

Most of the stuff isn't funny. Some is downright frustrating, like all the fake downloads. And you cannot just discount everything, as some April 1st news is actually legit, though it can take days before you know it is true.

I hope you're just being dramatic... to say that TASvideos going down is "ruining lives" is a bit of an overstatement. I agree that it's way too big to be a proper joke, but it sounds like some people need to find alternative hobbies. If my main hobby suddenly dried up, I've got plenty more I could take up, and other outlets for this one. There's always YouTube.

I kind of am, and I'm kind of not. See, what I imagine happening- and I know this isn't limited to April 1st at all- is some people being fooled, and others being upset at the joke (moreso than I am, even), and expending tons of energy in their indignation. Whether or not it's justified, it's hard to argue that it's understandable.

Yes, I am blaming the would-be prankster. And rightfully so, I feel. The owner of a popular site should be more responsible.

As for other hobbies? Well, you'll note it took me five days to respond to you. That would be because I was at Anime Boston this weekend. I'm not saying my life was ruined, and it certainly doesn't affect me much.

But neither will it end terribly well, really...

Yeah, I hate it too, but fortunately I rarely ever get tricked and dissappointed because there's never any news I care about. Last year I was fooled by a very convincing video of a functioning homebrew DS emulator on wii, and angered when I realized the date, but that's about it ( ... )
