So, I want to get my parents a digital camera for Christmas but I know nothing about them. What would you recommend?
I'd want something decent, but doesn't have to be an SLR. Something they can take with them on trips and easily snap quality pictures of stuff with.

Would I be crazy to hope for such a thing under $100?

try cannon powershot, has worked well for me :)
any megapixels is pretty good, i have 5.0 and it's perfect.
plus, it has some customized settings if your parents ever wanna edit stuff like exposure, but they don't have to - the auto settings are good too.

I second this. The PowerShots are very nice as point-and-shoots go, and I'm pretty sure there are ~$100 models.
