As you make your way into the labyrinth, following the
lantern-lit path, the great castle, Megala Thea, the newest addition to the Labyrinth, looms out of the flame-tinted twilight. It's sweeping arches are lit by even more torches and lanterns, and it's great doors stand open, inviting all the masked visitors to its imposing ediface to enter within.
Haunted musical strains, both lilting and
melodious, greet your ears as you enter into a great, sweeping foyer, the ceiling of which is distorted and colored brightly with thousands of floating candles.
Most rooms of the castle are closed to visitors. Any attempts to reach inaccessable areas will be met with doors that will not open no matter how much force is applied. Any attempt to climb the stairs from the main hall will result in arriving back at the castle's entrance.
Passing beneath the arching
Grand Staircase will take visitors to an alcove of sorts with two exits: one leading to the Great Ballroom, the other to the Central Courtyard.
The music grows when entering the Great Ballroom, and you are surrounded by multifaceted lights, the smells of fine autumn dishes, places to sit, room to dance, a full bar, an servants asking you for orders. There is no dais here, no throne. This is an equal celebration, a welcome-home party.
To either side of the entrance, there are spiral staircases leading to a second floor balcony that encompasses the expanse of the Ballroom. The sounds here are muted and the seating lit dimly by small candelabras.
The Central Courtyard is a pleasant, outdoor retreat, quiet and lit by a silver light much akin to moonlight. There are benches and a charming fountain and creeping vines adorn both the fountain and the walls. The atmosphere is also touched by several hanging lanterns. While the music from the Great Ballroom can be heard, it is a distant melody.
A single staircase near the back of the courtyard leads to a sweeping balcony overlooking the Labyrinth. The view from this balcony is enchanted, and when one looks skyward from it, they will see a glittering sky filled with stars and a shimmering full moon. There is seating here as well, cushioned but without firelight, allowing one to enjoy the light of the moon shining down.
