[For a moment there's only static, no video because, in all honesty, Mitsuru does not want people to know where she is. Not right now at least. Still, she knows she has to say this, she hates that she's always the one that has to say these things. Thinking about that doesn't do any good though, it's what almost caused her to give into the demon ( Read more... )

It was all that could be done. [A pause.] I regret it was necessary, but it was his decision.

I am aware of that.

And yet you feel responsible.

I should have been able to do something so it did not come to this.

And what, precisely, would that be? His Maker did not gift him with common sense. How would you deign to do so?

[She's silent for a long time and just looks down, when she looks up, it looks like she might start crying.] In order to have the power it held over him, Iori had to accept it's offer, correct? If he had not, then it would not have been able to take him?

Only the strongest of wills are able to resist the pulls of a Demon, and even then, they are not completely immune. Were he not alone, perhaps someone could have snapped him out of it, but that someone would not have been you. Were you to have tried, it would have had more fodder to manipulate him with. You, if you recall, were one of the reasons he sought the demon's powers in the first place.

...You're honestly saying there are people here who blame you for Junpei's stupidity?

I...think there are some that do not think I did all I could to prevent his death. It also seems that Iori himself blames me for such things.

There was no way to prevent his death. If someone wants something enough, nothing will stop them.

Junpei is a child who refuses to accept his short-comings are his own fault.

It disturbs me that I cannot say you're wrong there.

Many people aren't capable of taking responsibility for their own situations. Of course, [And he's looking at you, Mitsuru] There is always someone willing to stand up and take their responsibility for them.

I think my hesitation in admitting that is partially because I know how others will react. They will think we should pity him, or be easy on him because he did not mean it. I...don't agree. He made his choice because he feels inadequate in comparison to us. I feel responsible in that I never noticed he resented us so, however, that is all.
