Finally put my DCSE to good use. Took almost every screw out of Cassandra's e1705 and replaced her speakers AND put every single screw back where it had originally came from. Though I will admit to a slight panic when I couldn't remember which pair went to the hard drive and which went to the keyboard, but that was swiftly resolved. Now Cassandra ( Read more... )

dell depot service = bad
the last time i sent my laptop in before the warranty expired was for the speakers, and they didn't even fix them right

oh well no worries, i'm happinly using my macbook now :D

Oh yes there are a HUGE number of horror stories about Dell depot service. Actually the last I heard before I left Dell was that they were trying to get away from their current depot contract because the quality of the service was so terrible. If you ever have on-site service never let the lazy on-site tech try to send your computer to depot. And if you have depot service I'd say just tell them to send you whatever parts need replacing and do it yourself. Servicing the machine isn't hard, it just takes a lot of screws.

When I was in TN I picked up a nifty little screwdriver with 6 double-ended bits, everything from 00 and 0 size philips up through #6 and #8 torx. Best investment ever. I used it to repair my powerbook in under an hour.
