I don't think I would like some of my favorite authors if I met them. There are a handful of people who's writing I really love; but from what I can gather from this writing, I just don't think we would be friends. For some reason it doesn't seem weird that I would enjoy someone's music or acting and not be able to be buddies with them. The idea ( Read more... )

No doubt. For some reason, I get it.

I just started wtahcing "The L Word" since you and Jess had talked about it (watched seasons 2 and 3 on netflix) and I think that Jenny girl is probably a good writer, and every so often she'd read a bit of her book or sotry and I'd really like it, but I cannot STAND her. She bugs the complete crap out of me.

Speaking of, it's funny how I either love the characters on that show or hate them. There's no middle ground.

Here's my list, tell me if you agree or disagree.

LOVE: Shane, Carmen, Helena, Alice, Max.
HATE: Bette, Tina, Jenny, Lara, Kit.

(Dana I can't comment on because that would be sad/mean)

I'm dying to talk about the show, no one around here has seen it!

L-Word!!! :-) We've been (somewhat) watching the new season at a friend's who is willing to pay for cable and showtime. My favorite season (and the best one in my opinion) is the first one. It's gone steadily downhill since then but I still watch. How sad is that! Anyway I agree and disagree with your likes and dislikes.

LOVE: Shane (how I want to do her!), Carmen (she could be involved in the doing of Shane), Alice, Dana and Tina/Bette most of the time.

In-The-Middle: Lara, Kit, Helena (HATED her at first but she grows on you.)

HATE: Jenny (to the extreme!) and Max (she/he does nothing for me and seems too whiney.)

There are new characters too but I won't go in to them since you haven't gotten there yet. I'm always happy to discuss L-Word- just give a call! :-)

P.S. We need to come to Chicago and visit you. It's been too long!

Artistic types are, in general, a bunch of Drama MacCrazypants. This makes them VERY INTERESTING, but also sometimes hard to be around longterm - or even short term!

Still, I get what you're saying... writing's intimate; it's weird to like someone's intimate voice & not like them personally. You know, I bet this translates to livejournal? There are several people I find fantastic in real life whose blogs are infinitely dull; and several fascinating writers I know only online, who I suspect would have little to offer in everyday conversation.
