He'd come looking for her, just like he'd promised Olive.
If you love each other, you're supposed to be together.
It was supposed to be that simple, and somehow along the way it ha got really all messed up and terribly complicated. Calvin just wanted to get it back to the easy way it had been before, without this future alternative marriage and insults had messed things up.
It was past time.
He almost tripped over Fort on the way to the hut, then stopped up short and looked down at them. Calvin hadn't quite worked out what to say yet.
Fort lifted his head, tail beating the ground like some sort of maniac. He's always been better at showing his affection than I have.
A bit more freely given about it too. I squint to make out who it is through the dark, but the voice gives it away in a second and I hate the fact that my stomach still does flipflops. Stupid self.
"And Fort too. Hey guy," he reached out to scritch at his ears but didn't look away from Meg. Even if all he couldn't make out all the details of her in the dark like this, he couldn't look away.
"I..." For a moment, Calvin stopped. Because he didn't know what to say to her, never had. Only thing to really do was lay it all on the line. "I love you. I'm sorry, I'm an idiot, I'm a complete idiot, and I said some nasty stuff and I really just love you."
As he starts to talk, I push myself up, my expression neutral as I just watch him. I've wanted to talk to him since I punched him in the face, but I've been a coward, and an idiot and pretty much the lamest person on the island, if not the whole world.
Not that that's unusual. "God, Cal, you're an idiot? I'm the idiot. I shouldn't have punched you, I love you and God, I promise to only hit you again if you deserve it."
