various bits of headcanon
1) Naruto's unwittingly very monk-like in that he has few material possessions outside of the necessities (because he's such a loser that being a ninja is kinda his only interest, hurf). the only material possessions he splurges on are, per canon, his mass collection of plants that litter his room, and as of SP, his Sony PSP. he really likes zoning out when he needs a minute and playing a game that doesn't require a lot of thinking...button mashers. also LocoRoco. :|a
2) thinks sweets are okay, not big on bitter foods; like mostly salty and sour. spicy is a weird new territory for him but he's beginning to love it.
3) sunflowers are his favorite flower. because THEY'RE HUGE and have tasty seeds and are so bright and happy... basically he likes any flowers that are yellow or orange; those colors on flowers just make him smile.
4) sleeps on his stomach OR sprawled everywhere OR...with a boa constrictor grip on one of his many pillows. (this last is canon, I'm just too lazy to look for images ?_?) obviously he's a restless sleeper; he usually has at least a full bed to make up for this, so adjusting to a twin here in SP in his tiny room in their tiny apartment was hard, and still not entirely successful. a lot of the time, at least half of him is hanging out of bed.
5) he doesn't talk about it EVER, even less than the Kyuubi thing, but he has a sort of resigned sadness about his parents. he accepted a long time ago that no one would tell him about who they were and what happened to them, so he just sort of locked the specific idea of "parents" away. there was a period when he was little that he would daydream about them and imagine what they looked like and what they would do together as a family. as he got older, he idly figured maybe he could actually get some answers when he becomes Hokage, but it's not something he often remembers.
6) he's one of those weird people who can just...get himself up. know when he has to get up and just GETS UP. doesn't need an alarm clock or anything. and once he's up, he's up. there's no such thing as napping in his vocabulary, more that he doesn't let himself than anything else. that said, he loves sleeping in when he has nothing to worry about, and he would probably enjoy a rainy day nap should he be likewise stress/schedule-free and the opportunity presented itself.
7) no sense of fashion (if canon didn't make that obvious). jeans and t-shirt, possibly hoodie. bright colors, graphics and text maybe, no logos or prints. prefers everything to be slightly too big, likes baggy jeans that are too long.
8) is actually pretty embarrassed by his inability to read very well (in English as per NG and SP, OR Japanese as per canon) because it's never been something he was able to conquer and still needs help with. this is especially troublesome when he actually TRIES to read because it's only for important things, like technique scrolls, which of course are in difficult and complex language. he often had to ask either Jiraiya or Iruka for help (but trying to cover up the real reason, like saying he just didn't understand the technique).
9) has mysteriously managed to never have any serious injuries. his arm did get broken once, as a kid...because another kid pushed him off the slide :|a
10) physical affection still weirds him out because it's something he's really not used to, but what with all the dramu lately, he's really starting to enjoy hugs :|a given the chance, he'd be physically affectionate to others, and is sometimes (in his awkward, boyish way) without realizing sometimes. ...this usually equates to playful punching or a manly arm slung on your shoulder. HE'S NOT A GENTLE GUY, but could be if he tried/was encouraged, but he'd still be awkward and unsure because to him it's almost like a language he doesn't quite speak.
11) music is a foreign concept to him, because like in that first blip, he doesn't have many interests outside of being a ninja (he's so boring that way) and...Naruto-verse doesn't exactly have variety in the music department. when things calm down, he'll give it a decent shot and fall in love with it - mostly rock and its subgenres, freestyle rap, hip hop... he himself can carry a tune and blast out your eardrums with sheer volume, but it has no finesse and sounds like he's going hoarse even when he isn't. energetic and perfect for a karaoke night or drunken rock show, but not particularly nice to listen to. somehow charismatic enough that no one really minds and they sort get swept up in the energy.
12) secretly, he wants to give "extreme" sports like snowboarding and skateboarding and BMXing a shot.
13) he wants a dog :( a medium/big dog, but probably the typical golden retriever. but he doesn't say anything because there'd be no way to keep a dog in the tiny spaces they tend to live in with so many people... at least one that size. and he has no interest in small dogs.
14) though he hasn't smoked in a while, Naruto enjoys smoking weed. It doesn't actually...affect him at all, but it's something that he does socially, and enjoys being included. same thing with drinking. he won't try anything more hardcore as far as drugs, though.
15) though he knows rationally that he has to be as important to some people as some are to him, there's still an immediate denial and disbelief that keeps him from truly believing, most of the time. he doesn't know what to do but argue and splutter when someone says he's important to them, though he is happy about it. he doesn't hear it that often, though, which he doesn't entirely mind - because that discomfort and awkwardness gets avoided. HE WANTS TO BE MANRI, OKAY.
16) Naruto would be SUCH a whiny bitch if he ever got sick. One, because he's not used to it, and two, because it's a rare show of age regression; a subconscious desire to be doted on for a little bit. Considering he doesn't have immunity but instead high resistance to poison, I've inferred the same to be true of alcohol and drugs. Sickness is too amorphous to easily subject to the same conclusion; after much debate, I decided that he CAN get sick, it's just incredibly rare. His body has no natural resistance since...the Kyuubi kinda takes care of everything sjfdhks so really he can only get small illnesses like normal colds and such, things too small for the Kyuubi's defense to really take notice of and eradicate, but BECAUSE of his own unused immune system, it lingers a lot longer than it should (or would, for normal people).
17) if anyone ever commented that Naruto's life sucks, he would stare at them in complete confusion. it's that optimism thing; as far as he's concerned, he has it pretty good. lots of friends, a big family (Team 7 AND NG Fam), and he would say so.
18) drinks straight from the milk carton when no one's looking, because he's a gross teenage boy like that.
