I have never been astounded by any given magazine, but Magnet tends to have more reviews-per-issue than I get around to reading. Plus you get 7 cds. I am interested to see the better answer somebody else would post.

yeah. magnet is pretty good.
spin is okay. good features. kinda bad reviews (they give everything a b+ it seems.)
nme is good too. but maybe since it's british getting s subcription here would be kinda spensive.

I've never read Magnet, though now I'm definitely curious. Personally, I always go for Q... I might not agree with a lot of their reviews, but they always, always make me laugh. Also, their articles seem to be a little less shallow than Spin or Rolling Stone. (To me, Rolling Stone writers share an unparalleled ability to write 10,000 word stories with about 300 words of content.)

I hate to say it, but Blender keeps my interest far more than the more indie mags. ANd WAY more than its non-indie competition. Magnet is good, I guess, but it seems they've been writing about the same 20 indie acts for the past 10 years. Zzzzzzzzz. Blender talks about all genres and is snarky as hell. If you can get past the fact that most issues have some pop tart on the cover, it's pretty worthwhile.

That's interesting, I thought everybody was going to say magnet wasn't punk enough. They really do have 100 reviews per issue. The one thing that disappoints me is they don't cover electronic music that much, but that's what grooves is for I guess.

Spin seems to be more Adult Album Alternative, but then again I haven't picked up a spin in a long time.
