CHARACTER INFO
CHARACTER NAME: Miranda Lotto
SERIES: D.Gray-Man
RESERVED: Nope!
WISHLIST: Nada!
PERSONALITY: Miranda is very skittish, being easily intimidated or scared by her more aggressive comrades such as Kanda. An emotional woman, she frequently cries or even openly weeps when upset or very happy. Because of her dream she still considers herself useless even without the distinct memories why, and beyond that she is not the most confident person because of her inherent clumsiness. She always tries her hardest at everything she does however, even if she doesn't always understand what it is she is supposed to be doing. Along those lines, important things will occasionally slip her mind, such as the Order's use of passwords to assure all exorcists are who they say they are. However she is also a mildly curious sort, showing no trouble in asking for clarification of terms or circumstances she doesn't understand, such as when she asked Lavi for clarification after he called Link a "watchdog."

If pressed into a hard situation she shows a surprising amount of courage for one so normally timid- she will literally throw herself in harm's way for a comrade, as shown when the arc when she first met Allen and tried to protect him from Road and the akuma's onslaught, despite knowing she couldn't do anything useful besides acting as a meat shield. Miranda is also very friendly, and always willing to offer someone a genuine, if sometimes uncertain, smile upon meeting them.

Despite her generally gentle and friendly demeanor, Miranda does have her moments. If bullied or harassed by someone long enough, she will generally have one of two reactions: snap, bristle and glare at them (more common with those younger than her or who are unintimidating) or stubbornly, half self-defeatingly try to stand up for herself (generally those her age or older, or who are intimidating). However, if Miranda considers someone her friend or comrade, or feels indebted to them in any way, then they can very nearly harass and bully her to kingdom come and the most she will do is run away, apologize frantically, or awkwardly try to laugh the behavior off/avoid it. This is largely because of her endless gratitude for having friends, and her grateful nature in general. If you do something nice for her, expect her to pay you back at least evenly, and probably two-fold.

TIMELINE: Chapter 170 of D.Gray-man
BACKGROUND: Miranda Lotto was fired from many, many jobs and cursed with terrible luck before becoming an exorcist for the Black Order. From the time she was a child she was disliked, left behind and teased for her inherent clumsiness and supposed uselessness. Her life changed forever when she found and synchronized with an Innocence originally found in the form of an old grandfather clock that no one else could get to work. Feeling the clock "recognized the uselessness" in her, she bought it and took it home. After being fired form her one hundredth job, she idly (and drunkenly) wished that "tomorrow would never come." Responding to this wish, her clock turned back time to repeat the same day over and over until two members from the Black Order- Allen Walker and Lenalee Lee- came and helped her regain some confidence. After assisting her new friends in a terrifying but ultimately victorious battle with the Noah of Dreams, Road Kamelot, she decided to become an exorcist. Because of this battle, she now has two ugly scars on both sides of her hands, from where they were nailed to her grandfather clock by Road- she wears gloves now constantly because of her self-conscious nature.

After deciding to become an exorcist, Miranda left to train at the Black Order’s HQ while Allen and Lenalee went to search for General Cross Marian. Miranda’s time training is not chronicled in the manga, but after Tyki Mikk (Noah’s Pleasure) supposedly killed Allen she was sent in as the boy’s replacement. Now equipped with the refined form of her Innocence known as the “Time Record.” Miranda used her “rewind” ability to repair the ship her, Lenalee, Lavi, Krory and Bookman were using to travel from China to Japan, despite the fact that it would take five days for the ship to reach their destination (at a minimum) and she would be unable to sleep during this time.

During the trip the ship was attacked by a level three akuma known as “Eshi.” Miranda played support during the fight, keeping the ship intact, the sailors (temporarily) alive and her comrades at full fighting force. The level three was eventually defeated by Lenalee, and the group of exorcists was then sent off on a life boat with the aid of a modified akuma, Chomesuke to finish the voyage, since the ship and crew had incurred too much damage for Miranda to successfully maintain invocation for the remainder of the journey. Miranda expressed deep remorse for her inability to keep the sailors alive, weeping openly and only allowing herself to uninvoke at Lenalee’s insistence.

Once in the lifeboat with her comrades, Chomesuke, and the three surviving sailors, Miranda once again fell to the background of the plot. Physically exhausted from everything that happened, she largely stayed out of the way until the group was again attacked, this time by a swarm of akuma and the Noah family itself. Mustering the last of her strength Miranda played support when she could, rewinding the time of her comrades to negate any new damages received, but was unable to restore them to full fighting force. She did, however, prove herself able to erect a shield capable of withstanding a dark matter blast by the earl himself that flattened Edo, protecting herself and the three surviving sailors.

After the majority of the akuma were defeated and the Noah and Earl beat a swift (and temporary) retreat, Miranda continued her role of supporting her comrades, keeping their wounds at bay as best she could. This would prove to be extremely important later, when Lenalee, Allen (who rejoined the group, alive, during the fight with the akuma and Noah), Lavi, Kanda, Krory and Chaoji (one of the surviving sailors) were all sucked into the ark against their wills. While in the ark the group had two hours to escape, and had to fight Skin Boric (Noah’s Wrath), Jasdero and Devit (Noah’s Bonds), and Tyki Mikk and Road Kamelot. The first two fights ended with the destruction of the rooms Kanda and Krory were in, respectively, a fact that was only known to those outside the ark when Miranda ceased to “feel” the time of the two exorcists- leading herself and the others outside the ark to believe the two were dead. This caused her a great deal of emotional pain, and served as a motivation for her to continue pushing herself to her limit, even going so far as to try rewinding the time of the ark itself when it seemed in danger of disappearing completely. She was unsuccessful in this last attempt, but fortunately it was proven unnecessary when Allen managed to restore the entirety of the ark (and eventually commandeer it as his own), by playing a song of mysterious origins (~oh~) on a piano within the ark. Miranda was able to sense when her comrades’ time returned to life (or existence, in this case) and wept openly with relief and happiness when they returned.

After returning with her comrades to the Black Order’s headquarters, Miranda spent a large amount of time in the hospital wing recovering from exerting herself. Once back on her feet she presumably resumed training with her time record, although she has not yet been shown to possess any new abilities. For a short while the Order was relatively peaceful, as the science department studied the Akuma Egg that General Cross Marian had gone on the Ark to find. This peace was interrupted when the Noah of Form (or Lust), Lulu Belle, intercepted HQ by taking the form of a science team head. She then used the Ark still in the care of the Noah to flood akuma into the area in order to distract the exorcists while she concentrated on retrieving the Egg. Unlike in previous battles Miranda was not focused on protecting her comrades so much as preventing the downloading of the Akuma Egg back into the Ark by continuously rewinding its time. She continued to fulfill this duty even after Lulu Belle changed to a liquid form and enveloped her with the intent of both using her as a shield on the Egg to prevent the exorcist generals from attacking, and to drown her and thus cease her Innocence invocation. She steadily maintained invocation throughout this, only ceasing once the Egg was destroyed. After that she continued to assist by erecting a shield to protect the surviving science team members from the fires that had spread as a result of the attack. Again, she only allowed herself to un-invoke her Innocence once assured that it was alright to do so.

After the Akuma Egg was destroyed and Lulu Belle retreated with the remaining akuma the Black Order also needed to move to a new location. Miranda assisted with moving alongside everyone else, although her natural clumsiness hindered her usefulness. At one point she tripped and accidentally spilled a potion on Lenalee and Bookman that forced them both to only make cat noises. She did help out by braiding Allen’s artificially lengthened hair, however! It was during this time that an artificially made “virus” was transferred to an exorcist, Krory, which caused people to act essentially like zombies (it was meant to help people work super overtime, but the inventor is a well-meaning, caffeinated idiot and it went wrong). It was transferrable by being bitten, and Miranda had the misfortune of being bitten by the nurse who had been bitten by Krory. From there she bit another exorcist, Noise Marie. The chain continued until almost the entire Order was infected! Eventually the creator of the virus scrounged up a cure, however, and the crisis was solved.

Shortly after the zombie fiasco and the successful moving of the Order headquarters, Miranda was sent on another mission along with Allen, Link, and Kanda, this time to retrieve Innocence. Here she helped by rewinding a broken chessboard and erecting a barrier around herself, Link, and the finders while Link played chess to retrieve the Innocence and the other exorcists fought off the akuma. After the successful completion of the mission Miranda reflected on what she and the other exorcists had been told about Allen and the 14th Noah who was found to be inhabiting the boy- particularly the orders to kill Allen should the Noah take over. Upon seeing her friend looking less-than-happy as they waited for their designated time to use the Ark, Miranda resolved to cheer him up! …And was immediately assaulted by a wave of self-doubts. Overcoming them, she eventually did manage to cheer Allen up by offering him candy before it was time for them to leave.

ABILITIES: Miranda can control time, to an extent, using her Innocence known as “Time Record.” It has two major abilities that can be used individually or in tandem, but not without the Innocence being on her person. She arrived without her Time Record in Edensphere, but if she ever gets around to retrieving it from the Scavenger's Yard she'll start trying to figure out just how to use it!

“Rewind” [Currently Impossible]- as the name suggests, Miranda rewinds the time of people and objects, temporarily removing damages they have suffered and preventing them from suffering the effects damages they incur while still under the effect of her invocation. However, once she un-invokes her Innocence or her target leaves her range of invocation, all previous wounds and those suffered during invocation return with full-force.

“Time Out” [Currently Impossible]- Miranda creates a dome that is impenetrable to anything except that which she wants to allow in. No canon evidence exists as to whether she can keep things that are already in from going out, but it seems feasible. This ability is strong enough to withstand a blast from the Earl that leveled Edo.

Other than her Innocence, Miranda is a normal, very clumsy human. She can speak both English and German fluently and knows how to sew, particularly dolls.

[Dream and sample journal entry went here!]

ASPIRATIONS: For Miranda, I want her to make friends, get over her fear of being useless, and learn some independence- maybe play a little bit of detective, too. For myself, I want to get a better idea of how a non DR-based RP on LJ works!
