Farewell to South Dakota

Back on the road, just tooling along, bugged by the flashes of colour in the roadside grass. I stopped to take some pictures.




Flowers yes, like these wilted, windblown wild irises...




But really got me to pull over were the brush piles scattered about in the Black Hills National Forest. I got out of the car to get different angles. A car going the other way slowed down. What had I seen? Brush piles. Oh that. Brush is raked up and removed to reduce forest fires. Ah, I see.




And see I did. Burnt forest. Here.




There.




And everywhere.




I drove on through the clouds, out of South Dakota and on to Wyoming.
