[ooc] crit & playing notes go here.

Critique of my playing or anything else you'd like to bring to my attention can go here. I'm generally hyper-critical of my own writing, and I really appreciate it if someone decides to help me with my portrayal of a character with decades of canon. I can't remember everything, much as I try, and Marvel is ambiguous about a lot of things, so what details I can get are important. Comments are screened.

This journal was previously in use at a game called polychromatic except I am totally incapable of sustaining community games where there are no narratives, so here I am, with Wanda. Everything that occurred there is being used as in-game canon. I'm leaving all of the old entries up, but I renamed the journal to clear up my friends-of list.

Wanda is from a fictional country called Transia and is Romani (on her mother's side, and was raised traditionally); I try really hard to get this accurate, but Marvel kind of got started in stereotypes with her, so I'm caught between deviating from canon and... avoiding comic book silver age racism! I will generally fall on the side of the latter (the "gypsy" costume? Yeah, kiss that sucker goodbye). Transia is next to Romania, and Marvel's maps are so goddamn confusing that I wish I could tell you any more than that but a lot of it is out of date. :( Sorry. Central Eastern Europe, thereabouts. After the whole Infinity Crusade thing where Wanda was considered fairly religious, I'm going with Orthodox Christianity. Unless Dark Reign sees a serious upswing in quality (rather than relegating Wanda to the ranks of characters who are defined by being obscenely powerful instead of by, uh, their personalities), I will probably never update past Ballad.

I don't incorporate Ultimates sans the tiny little math detail because I think it's nicely grounding for someone with ridiculously uber powers, Evo, or movieverse into my portrayal. Not my thing. Alternate shenanigans could maybe funny, though! I am not remotely stuck on playing with canonmates only and like cross-fandom interaction a lot.

My necessary notes on playing with Wanda (linked from the graphic in the profile) are also here! I've got a playlist for her located over here.

[character name]: Wanda Maximoff
[alias]: The Scarlet Witch -- once upon a time.
[series]: Marvel Comics
[species]: Human mutant, witch.
[details]: Wanda has a mutant hex power, magic and science combined, that alters probability. At its lower levels, she can make serious bank at a casino, suddenly force a gun to decay or rust away at rapid speed, cause 'accidents' to happen, light things on fire, or generally screw up or improve your day at her leisure. Magnified as it is now, however, we see the true nature of her abilities: it's not just luck she's changing, it's warping reality itself. As she got older it became apparent she could rewrite reality, and that doing so, especially on a massive scale, was enormously detrimental to her mental health. PTSD from a childhood assault and the loss of her adoptive parents wreaked havoc on her psyche, as did the loss of her children. Wanda's imagination became her worst enemy, as idle scenarios she feared became reality for her teammates and she caused the deaths of people she loved, including her husband, who has never returned. Eventually, her twin brother and father took her away from the Avengers and X-Men both, where, with Wanda in a vulnerable state, she and Pietro concocted a world where Wanda would give everyone everything they wanted. The fail-safe was a girl who Wanda altered, Layla Miller, in case things went wrong, which they inevitably did. After an altercation with her father, an occasional hero but more often terrorist with genocidal intentions toward the human race, a completely broken Wanda declared "no more mutants," depowering most of the earth's population. After that, she disappeared, spending some time in Transia, having altered her memories. She believed she was human, ordinary, but when she was transported to the City, a mysterious place that seemed to feed on its kidnapped citizens' powers and emotions, being reunited with people from home triggered her memories. Wanda began to investigate how the City worked, hoping to release the inhabitants, but she was abruptly ejected before she could get very far, and ended up in the Nexus. Her sanity is fragile, and she's looking for a way to keep herself from going down the same route. While an inherently good person, she knows what she can do if she's not careful, and she doesn't want to hurt anyone again.

Yes, that is a brief summary. It doesn't even include her life pre-M Day, sob.
[description]: Dark wavy/curly hair, tan skin tone, hazel-green eyes (...as drawn by Marvel of late, anyway), 5'7", 130 lbs. Tends toward red clothing, loose flowing skirts, with practical boots. Avengers #16 describes her as "a raven-haired beauty" but she's more often depicted with brown hair or very occasionally red, IDK Marvel, pick a hair color. Preferably the one I've gone with, for convenience, por favor. Wanda is in her late 20s or early 30s, comicswise; I put her at about thirty years old, turning thirty-one on December 11th (making her year of birth 1978).
[living family]: Pietro Maximoff (twin brother, speedster); Magneto (biological father, manipulates magnetism), Luna Maximoff (niece), Tommy Shepherd (son, though Wanda is unaware), Billy Kaplan (son, though Wanda is unaware).
[timeline]: Post House of M, post Ballad of Clint & Wanda. I refuse to acknowledge Dark Reign right now, fff.
[4th walling?]: No thanks!
[abilities]: The aforementioned reality-warping magic and omega-level mutant power are still present; however, she prefers to employ her abilities for the smaller scale tasks for fear of straining her psyche. Wanda is accomplished in hand-to-hand combat, having been trained by Steve Rogers and Clint Barton, and has previously led the Avengers on occasions. She is classified as an 'expert' tactician, in part due to her anti-terrorism training as an Avenger, in part attributable to natural skill. She speaks English, Kalderash, French, and Latin (yes, really), but is only barely conversant in German and Russian. Wrangling temperamental friends, coworkers, and menfolk may or may not be a special ability, that is up to you.
[power grid]: (applies to top fighting condition only)
