I've never been big on episode tags, never thought I'd write one, but there we go, I have!

Summary: Dean deals with some feelings by making lunch.
Dean's been subdued and quiet and unnervingly unlike the brother Sam knows for the past few days. Sam doesn't know what he can do about it or if there's even anything he can do about it, other than just let Dean deal with it in his own way. Except Dean's never really been one for dealing.
But now, now Dean's all over the place, flitting about the crappy hotel room kitchenette and concentrating with an almost frightening intensity on something that shouldn't usually take him more than ten minutes. It's taken him one hour, twelve minutes and several aborted attempts so far, but Dean's still not happy. Sam would mention the amount of food he's wasting if he didn't have the feeling this means a lot to Dean.
Sam lets Dean get on with it, ignoring his growling stomach and concentrating on his laptop. Sam had been all ready to go out and get lunch, but Dean had insisted and had gone and bought actual ingredients to make something himself, this something that was taking much longer than it should. Dean didn't spend this long preparing food; he'd rather just eat the ingredients separately if it took too long.
Another ten minutes pass before Dean finally announces that lunch is served. Sam rushes to the table, almost as eager to see what Dean's been slaving over as he is to eat it, and there it is on the table waiting for him. A sandwich. Just a sandwich.
Sam glances up at Dean before sitting at the table, he's watching Sam's reaction expectantly. Sam really doesn't know what kind of a reaction he's expecting. It's a sandwich, Dean's been making them for as long as Sam can remember. Granted, this one's had more work put into it than most; the bread is lightly toasted and the lettuce and tomatoes and the meat have been placed so carefully it almost looks sculpted, but it's still just a sandwich.
Dean's hovering by Sam's elbow as he picks up the sandwich to take the first bite. It's a good sandwich, certainly, and Sam nods and smiles around his mouthful to show it. Dean still hovers like he's waiting for more. Sam takes another bite because he's hungry and to give Dean time to move away, but Dean stays there. Sam finishes chewing and looks up at Dean.
“This is a really, really good sandwich,” he says and Dean's face lights up.
“Yeah?” Dean asks tentatively, like he can't quite believe it.
“Yeah. Really good.” Something about the way Dean's looking at him as he takes his third bite urges him to say more, so he continues, “Best sandwich ever.” Dean finally backs off, looking relieved and more content than he has in days.
“You deserve it, Sammy.” Sam smiles and takes another bite, wondering if Dean's started talking about something else along the way because really, it's just a sandwich.
The End.
The mood was meant to be lighter, but while doing my research I just ended up watching the whole episode again, so yeah. Hope you enjoyed!
