Guess who's a Psych major?

Jan 26, 2007 18:23

That's right, I am. I hated my biology class a lot but I loved my psych class so I decided to be a psych major. It still makes me die inside when I listen to anything from Wicked and realize that I won't be doing that, but I'll get over it. I'll like having enough money to do basically whatever I want, so it'll be cool ( Read more... )

o: I don't understand why you can't still be in plays and stuff. Plenty of people here are in productions even though they have no interest in getting a degree remotely related to theater. My brother hasn't been allowed to do plays ever since he went to high school. I think it makes him really sad to give up something that he's always enjoyed and been good at.

Well, I COULD be in plays. I just can't get a minor in theatre because in order to have the degree you have to have 4 hours of rehearsal/prod. Which is TECHNICALLY a four hour class that gives you one hour each semester you take it. That is, it meets four hours every week, but you only get one hour credit. Bullshit. I'm not wasting my time doing slave labor. XD I gots better things to do and babies to program. Don't ask. We learned it in Into to Psych.

And for my Acting 1 class I have to audition for at LEAST one show in order to pass, so *shurg*

Bah, WKU is so weird with credits and classes. XD Auto's confused me enough with them as it is.

Psych seems fun though. ^^ I'm in Intro to Pysch too.. called.. Experimental Pyschology. We're currently on..Perception.

I think I saw that on the add/drop list while I was dropping biology and adding developmental psych. I'm just gonna get on trillian and talk to you. T'will be simpler.

Learning all the ins and outs of the entire theatrical experience from backstage to on stage, would make you a better actor. If you want to be an actor than go for it! You're not being wise if you don't.

Okay, until you tell me who the hell you are, stay the fuck out of my business. I wasn't talking to you. Get it? Got it? Good.

Shut the fuck up.

You'd kill the actors out of jealousy?

No, you'd be making connections. You'd be working in a related field(backstage, lights, sound etc) while you got your acting career going. And all the while you'd be meeting actors and directors, basically more and more connections to help you achieve your acting goal. And there's money in acting.

But if you would rather be a shrink, OK.

Anonymous. Maybe you forgot to log in. If you're hhour1, once again, shut the fuck up and mind your business, otherwise, my reply:

Yes. I would kill the actors out of jealousy. All the actors. Even the extras.

No, I would not be making connections. I would be killing the actors. I hate doing tech with a passion. If I can't be on stage I really have no desire to be involved in a production, the only exception being Nunsense, which I helped "tech" (i.e. velcro'd up the dancing snacks) just so I could sit in the rafters and watch the show three more times for free. Yes, there's money in acting but on any given day of the year 92% of the card-carrying actors are out of work. We went over this in acting 1 yesterday.

...and just in case, if you're hhour1, go die somewhere or something, otherwise have a nice day.

Not to disillusion you, but psychology major =/= lots of money. To be a practicing psychologist, you have to, at the very least, have a Master's, and even then you'll have to be supervised by a Ph.D or a Psy.D. If you really want a for-sure job with pretty good money, then (like I said), I'd suggest that you pursue a school psych degree. You have to get your bachelor's, then spend two years in grad school for it, the second year of which is a practicing paid internship. THere's a HUGE market for it, it makes pretty good money, and the most you do is like prepare tests and stuff for students.

Also, you have to have a second major or minor for a psych degree, since it's such an easy degree. If you want a REALLY easy minor, I'd go for American Humanics. IT's just like three classes, because a lot of the requirements are psych classes. Humanics does things like prepare you for work in non-profit organizations... grant-writing etc etc.

I realize it won't be amazing amounts of money right out of school, but then again, neither would being a doctor. Four years of pre-med, four years of med school and then at least one year of being an intern.

I'm not SURE what I want to go into in psychology. Clinical psychology sounds like it would be pretty neat. We went over that the other day. *shrug* I'll figure something out, and no matter what I do I'll have more money than being a waiter struggling actor.
