☩ Video, 004 ☩ Church sneak-peek, feel free to Action!

[It's a cold rainy Sunday afternoon and Cesare is not in the posh Edennel apartments he had called home but the aging building he has been working tirelessly at renovating into a proper sort of church. Currently he's standing in the cathedral itself, and his voice echoes in the distinct acoustical way churches have.]

Good afternoon. I would like to ( Read more... )

[Frederic had seen the announcement on the Dreamberry and thought it best to go to the church himself. Once there, he looks about and eventually sits down in one of the pews with an expression of slight sadness.]

[Standing up from his pew seat, Frederic politely bows to Cesare.] Thank you, Cardinal.

[He then goes towards the confession booth and inside of it. He had seen other people do this before at church, yet never thought he himself would be doing it.]

[He can guess from the man's behavior he is not a practicing Catholic or perhaps lapsed. Not that he cares too much for a traditional confession and acts of contrition in this place. It's not even supposed to formally be a Catholic church.

He takes in a small breath as he sits on his side and slides the panel back to open the latticed window between them. Cesare looks straight ahead at the door.]

Have you prayed daily to Him, have you made a thorough examination of your conscience?

[He wasn't exactly a practicing Catholic, even though he was raised it by his family. There were some things he did not agree with in regards to the church, but he simply continued being Catholic as he felt that was his denomination.]

I have prayed many times. Though in regards to your second question, there is this feeling within my own heart that no matter how much I have done an examination of my own self or conscience, it feels even being kind to others is not enough.

Sometimes it is not enough. Good deeds will not buy your way into heaven, my son.

[Cesare does not say this unkindly, but in a whisper as he has spoken since they sat in the confessional booth. He glances but briefly at the man before he continues.]

God already knows of your sin, you need only now speak them to me so that I may ask him for forgiveness on your behalf. Pray continue.

[He's silent for a few minutes with his head hung, then continues in a melancholy tone of voice.]

I murdered people I once deemed friends in order to defy my own fate, even bringing an end to their world as a whole.

[Part of being a priest in confessional is acting as if you had heard everything before. This is twice now in one day in Somarium he has been nearly shocked. Cesare wettens his lips as he tries to think what he can possibly say to that. Well.]

...What was that fate?

[Frederic knew Cesare would find him a mad man and possibly turn him away, yet he continues on.] To die from a fatal disease which had plagued me for many years.

[He pauses for another moment then lifts his head up to look at Cesare's face.] If you think me mad Cardinal, I will not blame you. My story does indeed sound as if it would come from the lips of a man who has has lost his mind.

It is not for me to judge the veracity of your story nor condemn your mental faculties. We are here to discern where your sin lies, and welcome the Holy Spirit in us to see your contrition and offer it to God to forgive.

[Cesare looks forward to the door again and is silent a moment before he continues.]

Explain to me what you mean by destroying their world? How many people suffered for your greed?

I'm afraid to say Cardinal that my story must start from the beginning if I am to tell how things ended up as they are. Do you mind long stories?

Please.

[This was likely to be one of the most interesting stories he had heard in a long time. The booth seats aren't exactly meant for comfort but it's worth it.]

If I am to intercede on your behalf with God, We would know the extent of your sin.

Before I begin my story though, I must ask one question. Are you familiar with the disease known as tuberculosis?

unholydecree September 14 2011, 07:43:07 UTC
[Cesare thought a moment and then shook his head.]

No, I am not.

[Not under that name, though in his time they had called the unknown disease consumption. Medical knowledge in the 15th century was pretty dismal.]

[Frederic ponders for a moment then thinks.]

Forgive me for more questions, but where do you come from and what year is it?

[The question does not exactly catch him by surprise but it is strange hearing it. He's not sure he will ever get used to the idea that people here are from different points in time.]

The year 1498. I am from Rome, Italy.

And yourself?

[So this man is not only from earth as he is, but also from his past. Though he does believe he should give him the information he seeks.]

I come from Paris, France. The year is 1849.
