Alvis being somewhat short for her age, the bow was unwieldy in her hands. There were more important issues at the moment however, like whispering questions to the others in her group. For example:

"...What does 'gay' mean?"

...Jesus. Were these British kids sheltered, or what? John was totally slinging gay-related slurs around by the time he was eleven.

"...nothing. It's not so bad, for you. When you're...older."

Dealing with the younger children was not his forte. Time to change the subject.

"What's your name?"

Alvis smiled and answered, although she was still kind of confused.

"Al."

Natsuo stepped forward as soon as the introduction was done, looking confident. He remembered learning archery a long time ago, at his first summer camp...and then continuing to learn it in school. He considered himself average at it, though he already knew the basics.

Taking hold of the bow, he put the arrow in place and took aim. It hit the outside ring of the target, and he smiled. At least two years away from archery hadn't hurt him that much.

Turning to John, he said, "And what's wrong with liking guys?"

"You said it like it was an insult, that's all. Got any tips on how to shoot a bulls-eye?"

The moment the leader’s last word had been said, Masaomi stepped forward, smiling at his team mates and holding his arms out.

“I, Masaomi Kida,” - he pointed at himself- “will try this out first! Ladies,” - he winked at the girls - “be sure to watch me, since I’m an expert! I’ll be happy to teach you how to do it properly!” He turned, no, twirled around and got into position to make the shot. It couldn’t be difficult, Masaomi figured, not much different from firing a slingshot. Which he, admittedly, hadn’t done since he was five.

He pulled the arrow back, took careful aim, and let the arrow fly away.

It landed a few meters in front of him, and it wasn’t even with the sharp point down.

“Ah… haha...”

John rubbed his forehead. Seriously? Where did they find some of these kids?

"Okay, fairy princess. Let's try that again."

Shooting John a dark, annoyed look, Masaomi got into position once again.

“How barbaric. I bet you don’t get many girls,” he said dryly, before pulling the arrow back again. Making sure to pull it back even more than before, he once again took careful aim before letting the arrow go.

It went better this time. One, it landed with the arrow head were it was supposed to. Two, it hit the board. Sure, it was the far right corner of it, but it did hit.

“Aaaaah, so rusty…” Masaomi winked at the girls again.

Without saying anything Riku stepped forward as his turn came. Before taking the bow and arrow he tied his long hair to a ponytail so that it wouldn't fall to his eyes and block his view.

He put the arrow to its place, took the right position and aimed. He took moment or two to aim before letting go and shooting the arrow, which hit the perfect bullseye.

Well, what do you know. Archery wasn't that hard as he had thought it to be.
