Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Francine is sickly thin due to untreated anorexia nervosa. What most people don't realize due to how shrunken she seems is that she's just about six feet tall.
2. How old is she? 24 (her birthday will coincide with player's)
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch? She tends to hunch, and look down when she's walking, unless among people who care about her. A wilting rose, if you will.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Francine is anorexic, as noted earlier, and suffers from a disfluency: she stutters.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? She's not a dancer, and tends toward timidity of motion, but she's good with her hands. She treads lightly and can slink and sneak around with ease. (WoD note: Dexterity 3)
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror? Franny does not see herself as at all attractive, but that's not her reason for starving herself. My previous post touched on that. In the end, she's a doe-eyed stick figure with self-esteem issues.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? For a woman who works inside, she has medium-tan skin, with a scar on her right shoulder that seems to be where a chunk of flesh was torn out. Other scars are hidden under clothes.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style. Here's where I have to note the difference between original Fran and the Fran I'm playing here on LJ. The original incarnations of the character had lank black hair that hung straight and was almost always worn in a ponytail. Jewel Staite, my PB, does not. So, she's got medium-long brown hair, worn down unless she's behind the counter at work.
9. What color are her eyes? Brown. Big brown eyes that can look amazingly dumb and cow-like, especially when she's playing bait.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Nope.
11. What are her chief tension centers? She carries the weight of the world on her slim shoulders. Also, working on her feet all day leaves her with aching ankles and knees.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit? Another case of PB affecting character's current state: while she doesn't tend toward bright, vivid colors, she's taken on more floral prints in this incarnation, and noticeably less black. She's often seen with a Queenie's Sub Shop apron over her clothes.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them? She's way too skinny for them, of course.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences? The only time she tends to dress differently is when going on a TFV job--that might require shadowsuit, a uniform, a bait-outfit, or even an MIB style suit. Speech
(Ahahaha.)
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? Her voice is warm and friendly enough, and I keep hearing her in my head with a relatively high pitch. 2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate? Softly, with great hesitance. In fact, when you see me start a post with "..." before she starts talking, that indicates a pause, either for thought or a hesitation.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Francine stutters. Badly. Constantly, unless singing.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency? Her only language beside English is American Sign Language, in which she is fluent.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Only when she's speaking with someone deaf.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words? ...I think I've answered this.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? I want to someday see some magical being in her life cure the stutter. I secretly can't stand how everyone is all 'oh, it's fine, there's nothing wrong with a stutter'. Come on, I give a character flaws for a reason!
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart? Francine is not the most 'book smart'. However, she has a photographic memory, and a taste for trivia.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate? Fran overthinks things unless it is a situation she's acknowledged as an emergency--and then there's a TFV work-mode mindset.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
4. What kind of education has the character had? Graduated high school at the top of the lowest third of her class, grades-wise, and never went on to college. Also has some TFV training, from the cell she Hunts with.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about? Fran's a very strong chef and Hunter, with certain skills with music. In another world, she could have been an expert musician.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert? Extrovert. When she is stressed, she needs support--however, pride tends to make her withdraw, rather than seeking that.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Francine's personality is based in pride, with a tendency toward instability. She's very driven.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? Fran has a mothering instinct to her that tends to show most strongly in first meetings, unless there is reason given for distrust.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react? React.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight? Fight--this is a newer thing for her since becoming a Hunter. Part of her still wants to rabbit run when she frenzies.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? Biting sarcastic self-deprecating humor with a taste for puns.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them? Anorexia nervosa, body dysmorphic disorder, and a complicated personal mythology behind them.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person? Her mother's death. Regina's death. Shawn's death. And something that'll happen in character tonight.
14. What does she fear? Harm to her shop, her family, her city...and only after all those, herself.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations? To live another day. Maybe get married and have a family.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents. Her mother's dead, and she doesn't talk to her alcoholic and marginally abusive father.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? None.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand? None.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them? The Family.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Siobhan Aitken. Fran was walking home injured from a Hunt, and some redheaded witch stopped her and handed her a healing amulet...
6. Does she have other close friends? Her friends are The Family.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people? Once people get past her shell of self-loathing, she's easy to talk to.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends? Friends.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once? Single
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Yes. The Archangel Gabriel.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest? There's UST between her and, of all people, Dracula.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner? They need to notice her needs and take care of her, even as she does the opposite for them.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?She has none, and is barren.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies? ...Hunters tend to.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?She's a 1-2 on the Kinsey scale, with a couple noted girl-crushes.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?Fran's at the cusp of Sagittarius and Capricorn, and tends to show the Capricorn side more when in public. It takes time to see the aspects of the Sag in her.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?She's very not religious, and with what she's seen Hunting, it's hard for her to accept the idea of a good God. It's hard to say if the Angels in her life will change this.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? Nothing formal.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? An' it harm none, she's curious and tends toward tolerance.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them? She cannot get along with zombies.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? She is currently comfortable, but if anything happened to the shop...
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her? She's gathered enough friends to not feel like she's the bottom of the barrel anymore.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?This has changed back and forth with her 'verses, but I think at current, in the main 'verse, she lives in an apartment over the shop.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on? Guitar strings, ingredients so she can cook for others, books.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else? Francine, besides being a Hunter, is the owner of Queenie's Sub Shop, a (Fame 1) sandwich shop.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time? Guitar and singing, cooking.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? What eating?
