Dianna’s hand trails along Lea’s arm as the brunette fumbles around in her clutch, trying to find her key. She sighs in exasperation and passes the blonde her phone, tipping the rest of the contents onto the carpeted floor. The key glints up at her in a mocking manner as she snatches it up and unlocks the door to her apartment.

“Home sweet home,” she mutters, walking through the eerily quiet apartment. Dianna follows behind, locking the door behind her and walking immediately to Lea’s iPod dock, fixing the phone in place. “Di, please, the neighbours are already pissed about the noise last night…” Dianna throws her a glance over her shoulder and rolls her eyes.

“Do you see Cory or Mark here attempting to breakdance?” she asks, abandoning the music to saunter back to Lea, who’s trying to pull the pins out of her hair. Her skull is actually in pain from having her hair pushed up on her head the way it is. Dianna reaches up and untangles one of the pins. “I like your hair down.”

“Then you’re going to have to help me out,” Lea says, pouting up at Dianna who indulges the brunette with a smile and pushes her onto the couch, moving behind her to delicately pluck the pins from Lea’s hair, fingers trailing through the long locks.

“Better?” Dianna asks, bending down to place a kiss on the back of Lea’s neck. The brunette’s eyes flutter closed and she mumbles her thanks. “Anytime.” Dianna straightens up and walks towards the kitchen. “Babe, would you like some water? Or some of the wine we have left from last night?”

“Whatever you’re having is fine,” Lea calls back, pushing herself off the couch and wandering over to where her phone sits, the screen still illuminated. She thumbs through the list of albums, a small smile on her face when she finally makes her selection. It’s not one of the most played albums on her iPhone but Di downloaded it for her so she listens to it occasionally.

“That’s a little bit corny, Lea,” Dianna whispers in her ear making the brunette jump slightly.

I’ve never seen you looking as lovely as you did tonight
I’ve never seen you shine so bright

“You downloaded it,” Lea says, turning to face the blonde, letting her eyes roam over Dianna’s figure-hugging red dress. “Dance with me?” She takes the glasses from Dianna’s hands and places them on the table before leading her to the centre of the room. She slides an arm around the taller woman’s waist, though now that Dianna has removed her shoes, the pair is almost the same height.

Lea sings softly as they move slowly around the room causing Dianna to blush, burying her head in the crook of the brunette’s neck, pressing her lips against the exposed skin. Lea’s hands tighten on Dianna’s waist as the blonde’s fingers run through Lea’s tangled locks.

The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek
There’s nobody here, it’s just you and me, it’s where I wanna be
But I’ll never know, this beauty by my side
I’ll never forget, the way you look tonight

“You know why I downloaded this album?” Dianna asks, lifting her head to make eye contact with the brunette again.

“Because you like love songs from the eighties?” Lea guesses. “Really bad love songs from the eighties?” Dianna rolls her eyes. She’s used to Lea teasing her about her eclectic music taste.

“Well, there is that,” she says with a slight chuckle. “Every song on this album is from the year we were born.”

“Really?” Lea asks. “So this song is as old as I am?”

“It went to number one in the British charts a month before you were born,” Dianna says and blushes again at the incredulous look Lea gives her, looking away and biting her bottom lip.

“I’m not even sure if I want to know why you know what songs went to number one in the charts in Britain,” Lea says laughing, tilting Dianna’s face back up to hers.

“Just call me a geek and get it over with,” Dianna sighs, exhaling heavily.

“You, Miss Dianna Agron, are a geek,” Lea says with a smile, continuing to lead them around the room, bodies pressing tighter together.

“The album came up in a list when I downloaded ‘Papa Don’t Preach’, okay? That’s why I know,” Dianna says, still slightly embarrassed.

“So, tell me what was number one when I was born.”

“It’s worse than this song,” Dianna says, leaning into Lea to press her lips to the brunette’s cheek.

“I find that hard to believe.”

Dianna leaves the circle of Lea’s arms and skips lightly, gracefully, across the room to change the track.

I want to wake up with you
I want to be there when you open your eyes
I want you to be the first thing that I see
I want to wake up with you

“I wonder if we can get Cory to sing this,” Lea asks, pulling Dianna back into her arms to dance again.

“On the show?” Dianna asks looking horrified. “Please no.”

“Cory is a good singer, Dianna,” Lea chastises.

“It’s not that,” Dianna says shaking her head, “It’s…” she blushes again, feeling embarrassment pooling in her stomach, butterflies springing up, “I listen to this song. When you’re not around.”

“This song?” Lea asks, her eyebrow arching in amusement. “This is the song that reminds me of you?”

“There are millions of songs that remind me of you, babe,” Dianna says. “And I know this one is beyond my usual realms of ’weird’ taste… but it’s the lyrics…”

And throughout the night,
I want to hold you tight
I want to wake up with you

This time, Dianna sings along with the music, watching Lea start to blush instead.

I want to lay by your side, baby
I want to feel every beat of your heart
And throughout the night,
I want to hold you tight
I want to wake up with you

When the music stops, Dianna and Lea stare at each, silly grins on their faces until the next song starts, much louder than the previous two, the opening bars of Europe’s Final Countdown blasting from the speakers.

“Shit!” Lea exclaims, clacking back to the iPhone on her high heels, but it’s too late. Her neighbour is already hammering against their ceiling, the thuds resonating through Lea’s now quiet apartment. “Oops.”

“Ignore them,” Dianna says, grabbing Lea’s hand and pulling her towards the bedroom.
