For some reason it's been a week of car crashes I guess.
I was having a really good photo shoot yesterday with again, Glow models and Town Toyz the muscle car club. It was better than any shoots I've had for a while though, I guess because we've all worked together before, and everyone is just cool, has fun but at the same time they don't waste my time. Plus the lighting was pretty good despite the cloudiness, it was working for us. But, we had this idea we wanted to do an action shot with the cars racing. But the guy who ran the car club crashed in the middle of this set:
As you can see, I couldn't take anymore pictures I saw him crashing. From our angle though, we didn't see the huge chunk of concrete which prevented him from flying up and landing right into the bay.
I ran over as soon as I saw him hit the concrete head on and the car jumped up in the air about 6 inches and then just dropped back down. Some woman screamed, which I found out later was his wife who was watching with his daughter. Everyone else just gasped, it sounded like some sort of audio you would hear on a TV show. Before i could even get close to the car he jumps out and looks at his car, upset at the damage, not even shaken. I guess thats the good thing about these big old American steel gas guzzlers. After all that, this is the only damage done. A flat tire and a his axel a little messed up, plus some chipped up body work on the side.
After that i checked that he was ok, he said he was cool but his baby! His poor car! LOL. I felt bad though, because I was like that was my idea. After looking at the pictures and remembering the incident again, it was my idea to stimulate a race scene by just driving up and down the street. It was their idea to stimulate a burn out scene. So the problem is, for some reason he combined the two, and he had said before this something about his car will turn so how does he stop it from happening everyone was just telling him to let go and let it drift. Either way, he was still burning out while driving full speed ahead and that's what made the car go out of control. So after that, he said, go back to shooting. We had been trying to "chase the sun" as I say, making good time and there were still cars to take pictures of. Ok, whatever you say. Crazy. We got a lot of really good pictures after that, they are of course over the top sexy. But even I really like them, because the sun peaked through the clouds and gave this beautiful glow of light. And the background was beautiful at Treasure Island. And just in case you want to see just how close the water is to the street they were driving, you can kind of see in this picture were these two young guys decide at the end of our shoot to race for real, despite the earlier crash.
Oh, and a cop drive past us....an hour after the crash. He didn't even seem to car or slow down just kept on going. Weird, what a perfect place to set this kind of shoot up.
