He would not yield, and yet life had broken him and forced him to yield to many things.

He had spent most of his life refusing to yield, his commitment, pride and determination would allow nothing else, and yet he was a broken man. Broken by those around him, broken by trust, love, wonderment, joy and hope. Broken by things he had not believed in for many years, trust was hard earned and given to few, love was sparse very rarely true, wonderment joy and hope simply did not exist except in the deepest recesses of his mind and heart, recesses that he didn't even know existed.

Then one day a prisoner had asked for his help and his trust to save the innocents who had done nothing to deserve the fate Apophis' presence had dealt them. Despite knowing that it could and most likely would mean his death he helped the man. He killed Jaffa who had been entrusted to his leadership, he ran and he became free. This man had not only asked for his trust but in return he had given trust, trust he didn't think he deserved but trust he would fight for to his dying breath because this stranger had given him hope that one day he would not be the only free Jaffa but one of many thousands.

He yielded to trust and hope. Trust in this stranger, and hope that he was taking the right path.

He had known from the beginning that life with the Taur'i would not be any easier than the life he had known of as Apophis' First Prime, he had known that his leap of faith by coming with O'Neill could quite possibly mean the end of his life, not at the hands of Apophis but at the hand of any others who took exception to his past. Daniel Jackson should despise him for what he had done, should be one of the many to want him dead but he didn't. He had watched Daniel Jackson's pointless attempt to stop Apophis as he left Chulak with Amaunet and Klorel and he saw that this was a man who loved deeply, a man who believed in love. He hadn't believed in love in quite sometime. He loved Drey'ac, she was his wife, but it was nothing compared to what he saw in the other mans eyes. This man who loved his wife with passion that Teal'c had only ever heard of in children's stories, and offered forgiveness and friendship to him who had taken that love away. He never truly believed that these things existed and yet here it was displayed with such fervor. He knew that he deserved no less a fate than the worst anyone had to offer him and yet he still followed them and yielded to the future they offered.

He yielded to the knowledge that true love existed and even the worst of transgressions could be forgiven.

Having lived over a century most of that in the service of Apophis, traveling the Galaxy through the Chappa'i had tainted him to the wonderment of exploration. Life had left him with little concept of the simple joy's that it could bring and yet to watch Samantha Carter as she discovered more and more about the Universe around them ignited a spark deep inside that he never knew existed. Suddenly the simplest of acts brought joy back into his life, the joy of discovery, the peace friendship could bring, the knowledge that you could trust the person beside you. He would watch her as she worked her way through a problem whether it be saving their lives or working out a way to be rude to Colonel O'Neill without actually being rude, the intensity of her immense intellect was a thing to behold. He was grateful beyond comprehension that he was there to share this adventure with her.

He yielded to the joy of discovery.

The men and women of Stargate Command were honorable people, they fought with passion and lived their lives with such zest. In time he yielded to camaraderie, to the wisdom General Hammond led with, to the compassion afforded by Dr Fraiser to all those who set foot in her infirmary. He yielded to the dedication of Sergeant Siler, Sergeant Harriman and Dr Lee. He was proud to serve, to live and die beside them.

He yielded to death, but it was not a death he was ashamed of. He stood beside friends and fought honorably. He yielded to that fate as many before him had done and there would be many to follow. He hoped that should there be an afterlife he would hold his head high and account for his actions with the shame and pride they deserved.

And then he yielded to life.

Exploring with his teammates became not just a job, a way to defeat the false Gods or to rescue Sha're and Skarra, it was a joy. It proved to him that life prevailed and nothing could stamp down the purest things that life and the universe had to offer. They, like every other creature in the universe was deeply flawed and yet he was more than willing to overlook O'Neill's impatience and sarcastic nature, Daniel Jackson's innate mulishness and one track mindedness, and finally the belief Captain Carter carried that she somehow had something to prove that she would never be good enough, he was well aware that should any of them be anything other than what they truly are they may not have been as successful as they were.

Life with the Taur'i broke him down in a way that none of the Goa'uld had been able to. The trust and friendship Jack O'Neill had extended to him, the love Daniel Jackson had proven existed and the joy Samantha Carter reveled in day after day had broken Teal'c.

He yielded to it all, he yielded to them and their strange Tau'ri ways. He yielded to the life he had created for himself.
