Point taken, but at the risk of repeating a cliche, eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. It won't stay as wonderful as it is if we don't keep an eye on it.
That's all truly horrifying, and it makes me wonder--with as many people as make this crossing every year, to what extent is this kind of thing common knowledge? Do women sign up for these trips knowing that they're going to get raped every night? And certainly escorting poor people to a better life in los Estados Unidos could be viewed as a form of social work, but how can you maintain that vision of a group of people who are also serial rapists and batterers?
