I won't be satisfied until he's downloaded into it and the servos boot up hard for the first time. When he can look me in the eye, that's when I'll consider this project a success ( Read more... )

I just hope everything goes okay when he finally does download.

About leaving--if it's not too much trouble and Dad doesn't ground me until I'm forty, could I help you with moving out?

If we've done our jobs correctly, it will.

...Not exactly comfortable with people seeing the inside of my apartment. Though some of the stuff might be a little tricky to carry, even with the arms. I'll think about it.

I'm sure the download will be fine! I have faith in you two.

Eh ... I can probably easily lift as much as the arms can, but we won't need to actually move anything. I'll just end up transporting everything to the module, and we'll worry about arranging things later.

Eva and I can hang out while you meet up with Peter, how about that?

Congratulations on completing it!

I'd heard you were, ah, moving. Good luck.

Save the congratulations for when he's online.

Mm. Jordan has agreed to let out a room for me in his... complex, or temple, or wherever the hell he lives. Doesn't matter - at this point anything's better than staying in New York.

Surely the shell alone deserves some acclaim?

That's good of him. It's that bad there?

Perhaps. But if it doesn't work, it's just a pretty contraption.

I'm a wanted man here. Can't even go out during the day, can't function like a normal human being. This is no life.

So, the body is finally completed? That's great news! I bet Orlando is pretty excited right now, isn't he?

I ... I haven't said anything to Connors yet. I wasn't sure if you wanted me to or not, but since you're coming to Manhattan soon ... I'm telling you, he'll be so happy to know for sure that you're alive.

Thank you. There's always trepidation, you know, until you see your creation in action. You don't want to celebrate too early, but you can't help feeling that giddiness.

...Tell him. I don't know when I'll be back there again. You really think so?

I know. But if anyone can do this, you can, doctor. I mean, you wrote the entire AI program for your "smart arms" from scratch! Downloading an existing program can't be any more difficult, can it?

All right. I'll see if I can't catch him after work study tomorrow. I was afraid that I might let something slip by accident in casual conversation. Yes! He's your best friend, why wouldn't he? We happened to be talking about visiting your wife, and he mentioned that he'd give anything to see you again, too. Or at least to know for sure what became of you ...

It's not, though we did have to make some alterations. Didn't exactly follow the blueprints to the letter.

Haha, he's having casual conversations with you? That's a good sign. He said that, huh? That's... I'm glad. We have a lot to catch up on.
