[ the words scrawled on the page are in a surprisingly neat and almost flowy handwriting, something those who know him probably wouldn't associate with his person. nevermind that he mastered the art of wielding a pen long before that of other sharp things-- awful poetry aside, of course. he contemplated speaking to the journal, but he didn't see ( Read more... )

Think your perceptions are a bit backwards there, mate. Last time I went pillar of fire, it killed me. Quite the opposite of life last I checked.

What, the real heaven is more wonderful than this place?

Heaven's a place without pain, fear or doubt. Or so I'm told by someone who's been there before. I'm doubting, not really afraid, but certainly weary and nearly bursting into flames sure as hell hurt, so I think its safe to say this isn't any kind of wonderful.

[ McCoy experiences a vague sense of déjà vu when he makes that description of Heaven, but it's nothing he can properly place at the moment or connect the dots linking him to Buffy. ]

Oh, five minutes in this place and you nearly set yourself on fire. [ Deadpan. ] You'll fit right in with the murdering bastards we have here.

Didn't know I was coming, else I would've made reservations for a grand entrance that didn't involve the sun being out. [ a scoff. ] Sorry, murdering's off the job description and has been for quite some time now. Not looking to rejoin that club, but thanks for the offer.

[Barely paying attention to the journal, Buffy really only tunes in for about the last sentence--in response to which, she scribbles a quick and sarcastic answer.]

Oh. Singing? God, don't bring it up or you'll jinx all the lab-rats here.

I'm lacking the pretty necklace for that, so I think the rats are safe from the jinxing.

[Pretty necklace? Hm. There's a rather audible "huh".]

All it takes is one of us getting too vocal, giving the wacky scientists ideas.

Right, because I'm keen on giving lab coats ideas on what to do with their time. Not looking to get poked in the noggin again anytime soon, thanks. And something tells me that those blokes are going to do whatever the bloody hell they want whether we say something or not.

Got it in one.

And yeah...probably don't want to suggest something like bursting into song where 'they' can hear it.

Because more than likely, they'll do it at some point.

Nice handwriting.

Gathered that, twice over; re: this place and the singing.

Thanks. Writing used to be my specialty.

...used to be a scribe? Because it looks similar to stuff I've seen in some churches.

Name's Derek, by the way.

No, used to be a poet. Bloody awful one at that, so I suppose specialty isn't really the right word for it. People don't really write in the script I do anymore. Kind of went out of style a century or two back.

It's fun to play with the other chickens. I like playing with their pretty wings.

[ he should've felt it, but he'd been so distracted by the general chaos of just being here, that he hadn't paid attention to those baser instincts, for now that he did, it was there and he wasn't really sure what to do with it, being that the last he saw dru-- and now he had a-- ]
