Dream a little dream of mediocrity

I am a failure at dreaming. I don't have nightmares, which is okay with me on the surface, but I understand that it means I'm denied part of the rich variety of sleep experience, and it's another sign of my emotional dwarfism. Not exactly-- but you were going to have sex, if you hadn't set the tent on fire.

My dreams frequently incorporate people I know with different faces. I'll call the person "Mike" and I know it's the same "Mike" I work with, but he looks like a stranger. Anybody know what that means?

Nightmares are supposed to peak around the age of four. The idea is that, with growing maturity, nightmares become less necessary because we develop some tools for dealing with Big Fears, or ignoring them in a more structured way (As Good As It Gets). Nightmares are supposed to be the last resort of the mind: common in a toddler, unsurprising in a child, problematic, if they occur frequently, in an adult. It's not any more necessary for adults to have nightmares than it is for them to see scary movies.

About dreams eerily like slow days at work: I don't think this is about the fictitious brain-contorsionist feat of "superego" "controlling" "unconscious" "id", because what would that even mean? It's not like these are parts of the brain; they're names convenient for describing different things our minds do. Ahem. The question is why you would want to do a Freudian reading of UD, anyway. Freud was a very smart guy and excellent social satirist of a society in which sexual desire had become dissociated from both procreation and doing ( ... )

I once had a dream that I was in New York and there had been a huge flood. I was on the SoHo loft's roof looking out at 50+ feet of water surrounding everything. I don't remember if you were actually in the dream, but your childhood home was!
