Poll

As you can see, the teams are pretty small as of right now. I can't say I'm surprised and I'm aware that it is because of people being cautious because of an unknown mod. I get it, really.

As I mentioned in my previous entry - along with other pretty vital information about the community - I've decided to hear your opinion on the subject before ( Read more... )

I don't know if you really need to postpone it all that long. Maybe start it on the 1st June? that way its the begining of the month.

I also don't think its just the unknown mod thing, there are other things as well.

Well I was thinking of a short delay, to get at least 10 people on each team so something like June 1st would definitely work as far as I'm concerned.

It's probably more things including the fact that neither LJ nor landcomms are what they used to be in terms of activity but I'd assume that at least some people are hesitant because they don't know what to expect from a new comm run by someone unknown.

:D sounds good. honestly you could post a couple of challenges now but not officially start til june 1st to have a bit of both worlds.

Yeah i agree. I would like it to take off, but not as many people are around anymore. Plus people are more likely to join after they have a friend in a team so they can ask for that team.

I think it always takes a little time for a community to get going :) As things go on, I'm sure that interest will continue to pick up, more people will hear about the community and about the sort of activities that happen in it, and people will continue to join.

That's true. I'm trying to feel things out to see if people are even willing to play in a team with 7-8 people, I'd rather postpone than have most members simply not enter and drop out because the comm looks too big and quiet for that number of people.

I don't know if it's an unknown mod but I also think people don't know... I have at least one person I can think about that I can try to get to join.

I'd say give it till june 1st

That's probably a factor as well. For one thing I couldn't find enough places to promote it because promoting in fandom-specific coms all over LJ doesn't work as this community is not related to a single fandom. Promoting in social communities of other/old landcomms was an issue as I only had access to jjverse and scifiland's social comms. But a lot of people stopped watching those communities by now so even that was limited.

I'd appreciate it if you did! :)

A second vote for June 1st, noted.

I would still promote at single fandom related communities. Most people have more than one even if they see your post at one.

I'm in the 'postpone till June 1' camp (although I agree with Tash's suggestion that maybe you post a few activities in the various subcomms now, one so people can get started and not sit around for two weeks but also because it will then give other people an idea of what it's going to be like).

Honestly, yesterday was the first time I even heard of this comm, and I follow a lot of landcomm social comms (and have a good amount of active people on my flist), so it could also be people just don't know about it. And as someone said, people like to join things their friends are in, so now that people are on teams, that might help too.

I know at least one person who was hesitant to join partly because of the unknown mod thing, but mostly because the post for applying has screened commenting and it looked like no one was joining.

WHICH I left as an unfinished thought. My brain... what is?

Where I meant to go with that was... maybe people who hesitated for that reason will be more inclined to join now that people are clearly joining.

I figured there are some like that out there. As I said, I get it, I just hope it doesn't turn them off the comm completely forever.

Oh, really? I didn't even think screening comments might be an issue. The things one doesn't account for... But yes, let's hope they will! :)

I don't feel like it should be a problem for people. It's no different than the early days of land comms, when I didn't know any of the people who ran them. I don't mind not knowing who you are.

And I hope they will too. I'm going to talk to that person and see if she's interested in joining. And I'll try to think of more places to pimp this thing.

That's an excellent point, it would be great if more people saw it that way. I think that over time there was a lot of failed attempts at landcomms and several success stories so people got cautious on one hand and spoiled on the other.

Great, much appreciated! :)
