[And he's fighting to keep the grin off his face, because serious tutors don't grin, but she just looks so cute with her first ever sword; it is indeed a momentous occasion--he reaches around behind her to straighten her arms a little]
Like this. You've got to be ready to attack or defend. A good swordsman doesn't even need a shield--[and even he realizes when he's lauding swords too much--clears his throat a little awkwardly]--hnn. Take a practice swing at the air, first.

[You're lucky she can't see you-- oh wait, she can probably feel the amusement rolling off of you. Hmph.]
A sword is a terrible weapon, you realize. [She can't help muttering, but does as she's told anyways. Holding the sword straight in front of her, she tentatively hacks at the air. It might even stand a chance of hitting someone, if they were standing very still and, for all intents and purposes, blind.]
[And one hand goes right to his mouth to kill a chuckle at the source, before it becomes a fist that he presses against his lips--there is a good reason Raven doesn't walk around with enough weapons to repel an army, apparently]
It takes practice. [Well, and balance, and arm strength, and reckless disregard for one's own health--draws both his own swords, popping out the fuel caps for the fire triggers, just to make sure no accidents happen, and sets one of them aside, moving around her to examine her from the front]
That's good to start. You could probably hit something... [and he can't even finish the sentence, because he doesn't lie, especially to friends] ...Well. Let's see. [with free hand, makes a come-here gesture]

[Levelling your not-chuckling with a flat Look. Very funny, Van Helsing.]
What kind of monster would give you enough time to draw your-- [her question cuts off as he draws not one, but two swords out and her Look changes ever-so-subtly from a "Haha, laugh it up" to a "You must be joking".]
Gee Van Helsing, if I did something to make you that angry, I would be more than willing to apologize. [and she waves her own pathetic wooden sword just for emphasis.]
