sounds like a good exercise.

i remember reading harrison bergeron in 10th grade english. this was also the class where we spent six weeks on prepositions, one of the classes that pushed me toward eventually dropping out of high school to get on with life. we had to write about satire and harrison bergeron. i remember the class largely not getting it...

Six weeks on prepositions? Damn, that's excessive. Prepositions are important to understand, but don't deserve that huge a chunk of English time. No part of speech or grammar point should take that long to learn, particularly at a high school level ( ... )

that english class was kinda the nadir of my high school career... i was obnoxious, i spent more time editing the worksheets that got handed out than completing them... i don't know where the dysfunction happened, but all of high school kinda felt like it underestimated the intelligence of average students. well, that, and spoonfed to make sure the relatively good ones would have super-perfect grades to lubricate the college entrance process. i'd have traded my over-100 grade point average for a real education in a second.

no idea on your short story there!
