Oh, ho, Pasternak! I can relate to the tragic scene at the end of your story and feel the cold, the furs and the movement of the sleigh. Sorry to say, I'd given up on Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago about 1/3 of the way through; I guess I could pick it up again at some point.

And your story@!@ The nuances of the behavior between Vader/Anakin and Padme, along with his protectiveness and the sad failure of his to actually protect her from her idealistic death, what marvelous characterization. As a detail, the image of him making Resolute dressage on the field of the slain multitude was wonderful, and of special impact on me, because we had many times seen the Viennese Stallions make their passages in the air and they're magnificent.

For a songfic, it was fitting that Palpatine hum a melody to Anakin as he bathed Anakin's wounds. Another bit of aural input, great. Congratulations on another finely crafted AU.

I know! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS SO CRUEL TO MY LOVELY EMPEROR! *_* ansketil_rose April 15 2011, 03:05:51 UTC
Doctor Zhivago is a very cool (literally, lol) book, but I found I couldn't really maintain my focus on it. I dipped in and out for a long time, which is unusual for me.

Thank you! I wanted Padmé in there. Some authors prefer to leave her out but I enjoy the Palpatine-Anakin-Padmé triangle; it's such a powerful emotional cocktail, all of them strong characters, so I'm really happy you commented on Lady Naberrie.

The dressage is from Doctor Zhivago, actually! There's dragoon crowd control there and, although Anakin's experience was on a larger scale, I loved it so much and it was exactly the right historical reference, so I stole it! Except, of course, the image of Anakin doing it is different from some random horseman. He's the victorious general (or so he sees himself).

Thanks again! *hugs*

And I don't think this comment will be as detailed as Alexis but I still want to go through and pick out things that grabbed me. Really I just needed to take the time to read the whole thing again.

First of all, I think I've heard the song, for I think I have the CD... can't be arsed to go dig it out right now though. I suppose I could find it on youtube if I wanted to.

Again you prove to be a master world-setter; I can see this "surreal" medieval war setting with the officers we know from the OT, and the seduction story from the PT. It could come off as completely ludicrous and cracky but you write it believably.

he could picture his sovereign’s mouth wrapping tenderly around the word, dark affection stretching the three syllables of his name into four.

Yesssssssssssssssssss. That's sexy right there.

watching the words disappear with grim satisfaction as the fine paper blackened and curled into ash along with his hopesI like that image, and it ties in nicely with the lyric about promises sweetening the blow. Vader knows ( ... )

The sodomy... naval practices... teehee! How very base of Maul. And what a nice little awkward scene it sets up.

Yes, Padme and Palpatine belong in different spheres... and how fitting that he killed Maul in basically a jealous rage, and then smiles at the thought later, feeling superior to him and utterly favored by Palpatine in ways Maul would never understand. <3

Oh, the reference to living in a modern era made me smile. Don't they know they're living waaaaay in the past? LOL.

And the emperor prowled about him possessively, his lips creased with pleasure.

Mmmmm, nice!

You know, I wish canon had been more the way you present it here. That Palpatine had chosen a special suit for Vader with honor and meaning and not just a big clunky monster suit (which I believe I read somewhere that was purposely designed to be more uncomfortable than necessary).

And look at Palpatine giving Vader orders on his deathbed! Orders for Vader's wellbeing, even. Awww.
