[Scene] Maggey and Gumshoe take Bear for a walk

May 11, 2008 23:20

Maggey: *Maggey bustles around her small apartment, looking as if she is on a mission, as she stops in front of her hallway closet. Peeking inside, her frown deepens as she pushes a few coats to the side.* I know I put it here somewhere... *Looking to the closet floor, she sighs and takes a step backwards to shut the door.* (cont)
Maggey: *Bear, her new one hundred pound dog, merely watches her, quite content to let his new owner look for the misplaced leash all by herself.*
Maggey: *Stepping past the dog, the petite woman brushes a stray hair out of her face before walking into her small living room. Kneeling down, she peered under her couch, eyes squinting underneath her glasses.* Hm...

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe, having finally found a place to park his battered old car that doesn't require him to feed a meter with change he doesn't have, walks the eight blocks to Maggey's apartment, carefully looking at the street signs to make sure he doesn't go to far--sure, he's been here before, but it never hurts to be sure! Upon reaching her building, he steps in,
Gumshoe: gives a little wave to the (half-sleeping) doorman, and steps into the elevator, pushing the button for Maggey's floor... as the elevator goes up, he checks his reflection in the doors, making sure he doesn't look too disheveled for once. Upon reaching her floor, Gumshoe takes a few steps to where her apartment door is, and raps his knuckles on the door after a brief moment's hesitation*

Maggey: *Glances up while still on the floor, smiling as she realizes it must be Gumshoe. She did, after all, invite him over to meet Bear and take him for a walk before work. She raises her voice so he can hear her through the door.* Come on in, sir! *At the sound of her voice, Bear leaps up and jumps on Maggey, nearly flattening her. She lets out a soft laugh as he licks her face roughly.*

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe can hear her through the door--and even just the sound of her voice sounds so happy that Gumshoe can't help but give a little grin himself--but he coughs, clearing his throat and trying to make himself look presentable before he pushes the door open and peeks his head through* Uh... uh hey, pal, it's me!

Maggey: *Shoving Bear off of her, though it was really less by her push and more by the fact someone else was coming into the apartment, Maggey stands up quickly, brushing her capri pants off.* Good afternoon, sir! *Saluting Gumshoe, she continues to smile as Bear jumps up to greet the new arrival.*

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe steps through the door, now very much unable to keep a grin from his face, her cheerfulness is so infectious, and he gives a little wave* Heya, Mag--whoa! *Gumshoe steps back a bit as Bear bounds over to him... he'd known the dog was big from her post, but he hadn't expected it to be this big* Well... h-hey there, pal!
Gumshoe: *Gumshoe seems to quickly get over his initial reflexive shock, leaning over to hold out a hand to the large dog as it nears him, reaching out to scratch it's head* So you're this Bear she's been talking about, eh? Good to meet ya!

Maggey: *Stepping closer to the dog, she relaxes seeing the two already getting along.* Yep! This is Bear! Bear, this is Detective Gumshoe!

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe crouches down, chuckling as the dog licks at his hand, beaming at the large animal* I think he likes me! He's real friendly!

Maggey: Of course he likes you! He likes everyone so far, sir. Just like me! I think we are a good pair together! *The petite woman places a hand on the large dog's back, grinning up at Gumshoe.* What do you think?

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe looks up at her, still in his squat as he scratches Bear behind his ears* I think you're a great pair--really! You could... you could probably ride him like a horse, y'know? Well, maybe not; I guess he's not that big... *Gumshoe trails off before beaming back at her* You like havin' a pet, huh? Makes it feel... a lot more like a home, don't it?

Maggey: It really does, sir! *Removing her hand from Bear's shoulder, she clasps her hands together over her chest, staring up.* I love coming home at night and having someone here to greet me! And he always listens to me talk about my day no matter how long I ramble on about it and he never complains about my cooking! He is a wonderful companion, sir! *Looking down to Bear, Maggey drops to her knees and hugs the dog around the middle, feeling very full of emotion at the moment. She is just that grateful.*

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe can't help but be a bit emotional himself; she's just too cute* That's... that's really great! And he's got a good home now, with a lovin' family, and--that's really great, pal! Honest! *Gumshoe reaches out to scratch below Bear's jaw* Do ya take him out for walks? He must like goin' out and smelling all the smells around here, huh?

Maggey: Oh yes! He loves to go on walks! *Releasing Bear, she stands up again.* He is getting really good with walking with me too, sir! The first time we went walking, he nearly pulled me into oncoming traffic! It was an accident, but it really got my heart racing! He was just too energized to stop and wait for the crosswalk.

Gumshoe: Oh! Uh... um, you okay, then? That'd--that'd be bad! Just plain not safe, really! Does--he doesn't still do that, does he? *Gumshoe looks concerned as he stands up*

Maggey: *She keeps smiling.* Um, we haven't been back into traffic if that is what you mean.

Gumshoe: Great! We've got sidewalks for a reason, y'know? *Gumshoe pats Bear on his head again* so--so can he do any tricks, pal? Did you teach him any new tricks?

Maggey: Oh! Tricks! I completely forgot! *Moving to stand next to Gumshoe, in front of Bear, she puts her hands on her hips, taking what she hopes is a dominate pose.* Bear. Sit! *The dog stares at her for a good long minute before he finally does as she commands.*

Gumshoe: Hey! That's pretty good! *Gumshoe applauds heartily, chuckling* He really listens to you!

Maggey: *Beaming again, Maggey jumps up a little. Bear rarely responds to that command.* Yay! Good job, Bear! *She pets him on the head.* That is all he know so far, but some day I hope I can get him to shake!

Gumshoe: Oh hey, lemme try! *Gumshoe stares down at Bear, holding out his hand* C'mon boy, shake! *the dog cocks his head to the side inquisitively, but does nothing* ...c'mon, shake! Here boy! *still the dog does nothing, and Gumshoe sighs* Well, I guess you really can't teach an old dog that new trick, huh.

Maggey: *Looks to Gumshoe, silent for a moment before she giggles, finally getting the joke. She salutes him.* Good one, sir!

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe blinks--he'd been being serious, but her laughter is infectious as always and he can't help but grin* T-thanks! So, uh... did ya want to take him out on a walk? Like, uh, the two of us?

Maggey: That would be great, sir! I was just looking for his leash actually... *She glances over at her living room again, her expression one of concentration.* I don't seem to remember where I put it...

Gumshoe: Uh... *Gumshoe scratches his head* Well it's not on him. Is it in the closet?

Maggey: The closet...Well, I already checked in there, but maybe I missed it. *She turns and opens the closet door again, looking around.*

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe attempts to help out by scanning the apartment on his own, but he's mainly doing a very cursory job of it; just looking on top of everything like the couches or the table*

Maggey: *After having searched the closet, Maggey migrates to her bedroom and after a quick peek under the bed, she grins and pulls out the long, blue leash. Standing up, she holds it above her head as she walks into the living room.* Found it!

Gumshoe: Oh hey! You found it--did he hide it in your room or something? Dogs like to do that, y'know, pal? *Gumshoe chuckles to himself, scratching Bear's head* We're gonna take you on a walk, boy!

Maggey: *Walking over to Bear, Maggey kneels and clips the leash on before standing up.* Yep, he likes to hide things I found out.

Gumshoe: Well... he hasn't hidden anything important, has he? 'Cause that could be kinda annoying, I'd think!

Maggey: Hidden anything important? *Maggey pauses, thinking about it for a moment.* Nothing I have found so far, sir...

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe scratches the top of his head, thinking too* I guess that'd make sense! No way to know if he's hidden it until you find it, right?

Maggey: Exactly! *Smiling, she tugs on the leash and Bear follows her immediately, his tail suddenly sweeping back and forth quickly.* Let's go for a walk, sir!

Gumshoe: > Sure! *Gumshoe pulls open the door, holding it open for Maggey and Bear to go through*

Maggey: *Walking out the door, the woman leads both man and dog through her apartment hall to the elevator and finally to the first level floor. Passing through the apartment building entrance, she grins even wider at how beautiful of a day it is. She waits for Gumshoe to close the door so she can lock it and with a final look to him, they start off down the sidewalk.* It is such a beautiful day today, sir! *Bear walks ahead of them, his leash pulled taut as he pulls Maggey forward.*

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe follows her, briefly reaching for her hand--before deciding better of it and acting like he's just going to scratch the back of his head like he usually does* It's really gorgeous, yeah! I noticed that when I was walking over!

Maggey: *Bear gives a lurch forward, pulling Maggey a few feet ahead quickly before walking calmly again. She barely manages to keep her balance, but does so, almost acting as if nothing is out of the ordinary.* We've had a lot of beautiful weather lately! I can't wait for summer!

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe tries to decide whether or not he wants to keep a hand on the leash as well, letting her take care of it for the moment* Oh yeah! It's gonna be gorgeous! You.. you going anywhere this summer?

Maggey: No plan yet, sir! Just working at the saloon to help out Mr. Marshall! What about you? Any plans?

Gumshoe: None for me, either! Just--just gonna, y'know, keep on ... detectiveing! Catching the bad guys! And all that stuff! But hey, it must be nice to work in a saloon! I really should stop by sometime, huh?

Maggey: We'd love to have you, sir! Mr. Marshall takes such good care of the place and he told me we even got a new piano player! How exciting!

Gumshoe: Oh, a piano player? You got some sort of hotshot musician now? *Gumshoe grins* That sounds fun! Y'know, an old-time piano player at a saloon... I'd feel like I'd have to wear a cowboy hat!

Maggey: *Pauses in her steps until Bear yanks her foward. She looks at Gumshoe.* Do you have one, sir?!

Gumshoe: I think so! Well... no, actually *he frowns* I think it was an Indiana Jones hat! But--they're the same thing, right?

Maggey: Oh wow! An Indiana Jones hat?

Gumshoe: Oh yeah! I dressed as him for Halloween when I was... *Gumshoe thinks, mumbling to himself as he does the mental math* ...23!

Maggey: You went as Indian Jones? That sounds like a great costume. Did you have the whole outfit, sir?

Gumshoe: Oh yeah! I had the whole thing, whip and all! *Gumshoe grins* That was a great costume party, lemme tell ya that, pal! Real classy!

Maggey: Was it like Mr. Edgeworth's costume party? That was the first one I've ever been too and it was great! *Still smiling, she leads Gumshoe and Bear around a corner, to turn onto a new street.*

Gumshoe: Oh, it was kinda like Mr. Edgeworth's! But, y'know, not as classy as that one, because--well, it was Mr. Edgeworth's, of course! But yeah, it was a great time! *he looks over at her* Oh... um, hey, Maggey?

Maggey: *She glances over to him.* Yes, sir?

Gumshoe: *he looks to the side, a sheepish grin on his face* Um... you, uh, still want to do that dinner we talked about?

Maggey: Of course, sir! I would love to! I'll just need to ask Mr. Marshall for a night off, but if it is during one of the slow days, he should be fine.

Gumshoe: Um...! Great! That's... we could go to your place, and--and we could make some dinner, and... *he trails off, looking around them as they walk* That--that sound good?

Maggey: Affirmative, sir! Bear and I would love the company! What day would work best for you?

Gumshoe: How--how about next Sunday...?

Maggey: Sunday would be perfect! I'll talk to Mr. Marshall tonight.

Gumshoe: Oh! *Gumshoe blushes a little bit* That'd--I'll be there! And we can make some food, right? It'll be great!

Maggey: *Nodding, Maggey is silent for a moment as she thinks to herself.* I can make dinner before you come over, but I don't know what kind of foods you like. What sounds good to you?

Gumshoe: I don't... doesn't really matter to me, pal! Whatever you'd want to make!
Gumshoe:...we could have steak!

Maggey: Steak? *Beams at him.* Sure! I can make steak, sir! What should I serve with it?

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe hesitates; he's not sure what you serve with steak--that's a bit too fancy for him!* Um, uh... I dunno! You can surprise me!

Maggey: Oh! A surprise? Alright, sir! A surprise it is! *She smiles at him before Bear gives another hard pull on the leash, taking her along with it.*

Gumshoe: H-hey! Watch out! *Gumshoe reaches for the leash, grabbing it--and trying to hold both her and the dog back*

Maggey: *Once Gumshoe grabs the leash, she comes to a stop, her eyes wide as Bear looks back at them, tail wagging. She stares at Gumshoe.* Oh-h! Thank you, sir! You saved me from falling flat on my face!

Gumshoe: Oh! Um... *Gumshoe can't help but grin like a dork once he's sure she's okay, she looks so--cute and grateful* Well...! Uh, just--just doin' my job, ma'am! *he scratches his head, grinning sheepishly*

Maggey: *Laughs.* Ma'am? You don't have to call me ma'am, sir! We are friends, aren't we?

Gumshoe: Right, but... well, how often do I get to say that? It's what every detective dreams of saying! *he coughs* Plus, you--you don't have to call me 'sir' either!

Maggey: *Looks a little surprised. No one has said that to her before.* Oh...I don't...sir?

Gumshoe: N, nah! You don't! I mean... we're friends, aren't we? You don't have to call me 'sir' at all!

Maggey:...Okay then...Detective Gumshoe. *smiles again.*

Gumshoe: *He struggles to fight the smile but can't really succeed, and just beams at her* That--see, it sounds great!
Gumshoe: *he puts his hand on the leash a bit below where hers is, so he can help keep a grip on Bear* I'll help hold the leash so he won't, um, pull you anymore!

Maggey: Oh! You don't have to do that, sir! I can take care of Bear, I just need to assert my dominance!

Gumshoe: Right! *he nods emphatically* You gotta assert your dominance! And then he'll listen to you! *Gumshoe quickly withdraws his hand*

Maggey: *Maggey grins and is happy to find that Bear's pulling on the leash has stopped for at least a few minutes. She sighs happily as they round another corner on their way back to her apartment now.* Thank you, s-...Detective Gumshoe! This was a really nice walk!

Gumshoe: *Gumshoe coughs, having enjoyed the walk a rather good deal, and not entirely wanting to just stop walking with Maggey and her dog yet* Yeah, it sure was, pal! ...he still looks pretty energetic though, doesn't he? I think we could maybe... go around again?

Maggey: Oh! *Looks to Bear and then smiles back up at Gumshoe.* I suppose another walk about the block wouldn't hurt us! I'd love to, sir!
