My mother and father met in high school. Well, she was in high school anyway, He, however, was a 36 year old plumber, still living with his mom. I guess Dave - that's my dad - offered my mom a ride home from school one day and, well, the rest you can guess. She was 15 ( Read more... )

This is awesome of you! I have wanted to change my last name as well. Johnson is an Ellis island name and my family was originally called Löse when they came from Norway. That would sound SO MUCH COOLER then Johnson, cuz is has that nifty umlaut over the 'O'! don't you think?

Lets all change our names!!

Umlauts don't work for me - they just implode my vowels into non-existence. My American mouth needs some sort of vowel adapter.

Too many people would only hear "Billy Boru" from Caddyshack.

Hmm, interesting idea. Tell me mysterious stranger, do I strike you as particularly kingly?

Well, since I don't actually know you, I wouldn't really have an opinion on that, eh? But, if you're going to start afresh, why not start with something lofty? I mean, you've made the courageous decision to change your surname, why not to something that bespeaks your courage?

If nothing else, it gives you a story to tell if someone asks about the significance of the name.

Come to think of it, you'll already have the story of why you changed your name in the first place. C'est la vie!

In the end, it's really about what appeals to you, and what you'll be happy living with for the rest of your life. ;-)

Oh hey, how about "President?"

Take your bags for you Mr. President?

Can I see your ID Mr. President?

Paper of plastic, Mr. President?

You wanted Irish. Mc'President might be more suitable.

Hey thanks. :-) A friend already suggested McKenna and I have a few Flemings on my father's side (which doesn't earn any points for that particular name.) I kinda like Gannon.

After I read this, I talked to my mother about it. She is of Irish decent, both sets of her grandparents came to America from Ireland. Her older sister started working on their Family Tree and gave my mom a copy of it. I thought that it would have some good Irish last names for you. I found Tobin, (Mc)Laughlin, Hoary, Gannon, Kent, Donovan, O'Shea, Fleming, Egan, and McKenna. Hope it helps.
