[Because however badly Giles deserves to suffer in death, he holds it as a sacred truth that Angel deserves worse.

How long has he been here? Does Buffy know, or Dawn? When is he from? How powerful is he - would Giles be attacking a god, or a vampire?

Can't attack him here in the store. Giles doesn't want collateral damage, not if it can't be avoided.

He has a stake. Has ever since he learned about Derek - it was easier than carrying a crossbow around everywhere, and safer. And he does have a sword. Carries it every day in case of pirates.

But a sword is a very bad idea in a shop.]
